Les Barres du Saint-Esprit starting from La Gastaude
This hike is located near Aubignane, a site at the foot of Garlaban, where Marcel Pagnol built several brick buildings for filming his movies. It is, in a way, our Provençal Hollywood.
Only a few ruined houses remain, those used in the films Angèle and Regain, but all these places are steeped in history. In accordance with the illustrious writer's wishes, a few wheat fields are still cultivated there for the exclusive use of local waterfowl.
The Carnoux-en-Provence Plateau Circuit
This is more of a stroll than a hike. It takes place on very easy-going terrain with very little elevation gain. Relatively busy, it circles the plateau with beautiful, unobstructed views of the region.

Garladan variant
From the vallons de Préscator and des Piches to the Garladan summit, this hike allows you to immerse yourself in the natural world that Marcel Pagnol grew up in. This itinerary, with its many well-known sites, is above all a variation on the Garladan and is in no way intended to replace the guided tours offered by the tourist office.

The magnificent 360° view from the summit of Garlaban is breathtaking. The return journey is a gentle walk along the track and allows for a short detour to explore the Route des Pierres Gravées, where you’ll find around a hundred engravings by Louis Douard.Note: there are only about thirty spaces at the Puits de Raimu car park, which fill up quickly, particularly at weekends.
In the footsteps of Marcel Pagnol from the Mas de Massacan
This is a fairly comprehensive hike that passes through the Col d’Aubignane and the Pas du Loup (which rises to 543 m). The views are exceptional: Calanque de Sugiton, Île Riou, Devenson cliffs, Aiguille de l'Essaidon, Cap Canaille and Soubeyrannes cliffs, a summary of the main sites in the area. However, it is only suitable for people who know how to find their way and are comfortable on difficult terrain, including climbing and descending passages, with a significant cumulative elevation gain. The multitude of markings also presents a particular challenge, but the reward is well worth the effort. This hike takes place in the Calanques National Park: please respect the regulations in force. See practical information.
From La Gardiole to Vallon de la Fenêtre via the crossroads.
This hike, which starts off as a classic hike, takes you along little-used paths that are not at all easy. The appeal here is mainly athletic, but it is very doable for the average hiker and offers opportunities for detours to enjoy wonderful views such as those from the En-Vau viewpoint.

A circuit deep in the Calanques Marseille-Cassis, off the beaten track.
Le Garlaban and Baume du Plantier from Camoin
Yet another climb towards Garlaban, but this one stands out, firstly because it starts from Camoin, but also because the return route via Pas des Quatre Fers is relatively little used. Jean Camoin was the name of a15th-century landowner who owned a lot of land around Garlaban (hence the name of the locality in Aubagne and the district in Marseille).
