Viscos walks
The Pic du Viscos
This is a very beautiful hike, but it requires good physical condition, good weather and sure-footedness.
Be extra careful on a very short section of the ridge. The climb to the peak is difficult.
Those who are prone to vertigo or have poor footwear should take a lower path towards the pass, starting at (4), and arrive at the bottom of the final climb to Pic de Viscos.
Turon de Hailla from Vizos
A beautiful, little-known hike offering superb 360° views from Léviste to Pibeste via Luz, Bergons, Gavarnie and Viscos. The climb is steep but not difficult, and your thighs will feel the burn on the descent. There is a loop variant starting lower down (Saligos) and returning via Coueylas.
Three villages at the start of Sazos
Follow old paths hidden under beech and hazel trees to discover three villages with a rich traditional architectural heritage.
The Ardiden lakes
This is a fairly uncrowded hike leading to magnificent lakes below the Pic d'Ardiden, crossing small mountain pastures and ending in a fairly rocky area.
Saint-Orens Abbey and Lake Isaby from Ortiac
A beautiful hike that leads to Lake Isaby via the ruins of Saint-Orens Abbey and the Isaby Valley. A pleasant trail, sometimes steep, mostly in the forest before coming out onto the lake and the surrounding peaks (Soum and Pic de Léviste, Soum Arrouy, Soum de Lascours).
The villages of Labatsus from Esquièze-Sère
An unmissable hike, visiting five villages that look like something out of a mountain ecology textbook. The men and women have tamed the slopes, working tenaciously to make a year-round living from livestock farming, which now boasts an appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) designation. It is thanks to this activity that we have these charming landscapes of high-altitude gardens, flower-filled meadows meticulously bordered by ash hedges, balcony paths and terraces on retaining walls.
Route of the Five Churches from Esquièze-Sère
There are five churches from the 11th and 12th centuries to see on this route:
- Saint-Julien Church in Sazos, dating from the 12th century.
- The churches of Saint-Jean Baptiste and Saint-Nicolas in Esquièze-Sère: listed historical monuments from the 11th century. One is basilica-style and the other houses ancient chapels. Visits in July/August, 4pm-6pm.
- Saint-Michel Church in Vizos, dating from the 12th century.
- The 12th-century Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Saligos.
The Napoleon - Eugénie route in Luz-Saint-Sauveur
It was following Napoleon III's visit that this small town in the Pyrenees began to flourish. This route highlights the buildings that the Emperor was directly or indirectly responsible for. Firstly, there is the spa district of Saint-Sauveur, then the bridge that bears his name and spans the Gavarnie river, and finally the small Solférino chapel, a reminder of his victory over the Prussians.
The Col de Riou from Cauterets
A variant ofthe GR®10which takes us from Cauterets to Col-de-Riou. A pleasant trail, mostly through woodland, then across mountain pastures to the pass. In summer, enjoy the magnificent fields of azaleas near the pass. Magnificent view from the pass over the valleys of Cauterets and Luz-Saint-Sauveur and the surrounding peaks.
Sentier du Lisey - Return via the Chalet de la Reine Hortense
A pleasant hike in the heart of the Cauterets forests and their history.
Discover the superb Plateau du Lisey overlooking Cauterets. A real treat for the whole family!
Pic du Cabaliros and Lac d'Anapéou from Cauterets
Le Cabaliros is a classic Pyrenean peak above Cauterets. Take the southern route, which is the longest, through woods, lush summer pastures and abundant mountain streams, rather than the Val d'Azun route. The length of the route and the significant elevation gain make this a challenging route reserved for experienced hikers. Enjoy a 360° view from the summit over the main Pyrenean range, the Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre massif and all the surrounding valleys.
The Chalet de la Reine Hortense
Did Napoleon III's mother really walk the beautiful trail that leads from the Pauze-Vieux thermal baths to the chalet that bears her name? It is certainly a beautiful route overlooking Cauterets and facing the Moun Né or Pic de Monné (2,724 m). Although this walk is not particularly difficult, it should be noted that the descent to Cancéru is rather steep. Not recommended for those with weak knees. The return to Cauterets is via the Mamelon Vert.
From Cauterets to the Ceriset Waterfall
An accessible hike where you will walk around Cauterets on the heights with, for those who wish, a detour to the Waterfall Trail to the Ceriset Waterfall.
The Raillère waterfall trail to the Pont d'Espagne hotel
The path begins in the undergrowth of the Pyrenees National Park. From waterfall to waterfall, we reach Pont d'Espagne and its hotel. The path passes through the forest, which is very pleasant in summer. We walk along the Gave du Marcadau or Cauterets. This hike is a classic in the region.

In search of the old Bolou stopover lodge
A long time ago, a group of young people spent a memorable week at the Bolou stopover lodge, between Luz-St-Sauveur and Barèges. Although the accommodation no longer exists, the building is still as it was when we found it during a beautiful walk under, in, and almost above the clouds. I invite you to follow us into one of the valleys that leads to the Néouvielle Massif.

This is an easy, short hike, ideal for young children. The lake, nestled in lush greenery and surrounded by mountains, is truly magnificent. Calm and peaceful, it makes you want to stay there for a long time.
Pic de Montaigu via the Hautacam ridges
Montaigu is a beautiful peak in the Hautes-Pyrénées, facing the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and set back far enough from the main border range to offer a beautiful 360° view. This slope via the Hautacam ridges is the longest, but it is also the most beautiful and wildest. It offers a few aerial sections that add a certain interest! Only to be attempted if the weather is perfectly clear!

Lac d'Estibe Aute from La Fruitière
The hike becomes very challenging as soon as you leave the wide path that leads to the Estom refuge.

A beautiful hike in the Lutour Valley, which is a magnificent place.

It also overlooks the lakes of the same name and Lac de Badet, adding an extra touch of splendour.
The Croix de Saint-Justin circular via the Adret trails in Barèges
This is an easy and relaxing summer walk, perfect for filling a few hours if, like us, you are passing through Barèges, or if you want to explore the village for the first time after settling there for a few days. It is also a good warm-up before setting off on one of the more challenging hikes offered by the resort in the Néouvielle Nature Reserve.
Saint-Justin Oratory via Courratge from Barèges
A very pleasant short hike between Barèges and Saint-Justin via Courratge. The route is not difficult and mostly through forest. The view from the Oratoire Saint-Justin is magnificent, both towards the Luz Saint-Sauveur valley and towards the Tourmalet. The route is well marked and shared with the GR®10 between Barèges and Saint-Justin.
Ilhéou refuge
Short 2-hour hike to the Ilhéou refuge (not forgetting the return trip).
Lac du Hourat from Cambasque
A beautiful lake with an island, difficult to access from Lake Ilhéou.
This hike is classified as difficult because the path is steep from Lac d'Ilhéou and a good sense of direction is necessary at the end of the route. This summer hike can be undertaken from the end of June until the first snowfall (for the Ilhéou - Hourat section).
Beware of Patou, the sheepdog. Do not cross through a flock, but go around it.

One of the most beautiful panoramas in the Cauterets region. Accessible without any particular difficulty. 360° view of the highest peaks in the central Pyrenees.
Lac de Maucapéra circular
A circular hike, much of which follows old shepherds' paths.
A good sense of direction is necessary on the climb up the left bank of the stream.
The GPX track can be very useful from (S/E) to (4).
This circular can also be done in the opposite direction.
Please close electric fences and cabin doors. Thank you.

Hike to a first-class viewpoint in the Hautes-Pyrénées. The ascent along the ridges allows you to enjoy a 360° panorama for much of the route and to visit the Pics du Malinat and Arraillé.
Lac du Chabarrou starting from Pont d'Espagne
I suggest you discover the beautiful and uncrowded Lac du Chabarrou, at an altitude of 2,300 m. An interesting alternative to the very popular hike to the Oulettes de Gaube refuge. Access is challenging. Don't forget to admire the Pont d'Espagne (a very popular tourist site) before or after your hike.
In the Marcadau valley, from Pont d'Espagne to the Wallon refuge
This hike, which generally follows the valley floor, will take you on a gentle slope to the Wallon-Marcadau refuge. You will alternate between mountain pine forests, peat bogs and meadows until you reach the refuge, where the landscape becomes more rocky. A beautiful variety of landscapes and fairly easy access make this a very enjoyable hike starting from Pont d'Espagne.
Lac de Gaube via Pont d'Espagne
This pretty mid-mountain lake (1,731 m) on the GR®10 is easy to access and overlooked by peaks over 2,500 m high. It makes for a pleasant hike of a few hours. It is also accessible in winter, under the snow, on foot or with snowshoes. Lac de Gaube - Cabane des Tousaus
Second stage of the four-day adventure from Cauterets to Luz-Saint-Sauveur via Petit Vignemale and Gavarnie. It can be done in one day, but I think it would be more enjoyable to split it into two days to take the time to appreciate the magnificent scenery!
