Description of the walk

This circular walk starts at the Col de Moulata car park (Hautacam resort), an ideal starting point for accessing the area’s high-altitude lakes.

(S/E) From the car park, follow the Discovery Trail which descends towards Lac d’Isaby. The descent is gradual along a signposted path through mountain pastures, offering beautiful views of the valley.

(1) Continue down to the right until you reach Lac d’Isaby, the first stop on the route.

(2) Return to the previous fork in the path.

(1) Turn sharply right (south-south-east then south-east).

(3) Pass the Cabane de Picourlet (a lovely spot). Continue south-east then south, making your way across mountainous terrain alternating between grassy areas and rockier sections, until you reach Lac dets Plagnous.

(4) Continue off the marked trail, heading south then south-south-west along a path beside the Ruisseau d’Isaby. Reach a fork at an altitude of approximately 1,900 m.

(5) Turn sharply left, off the marked trail. Head east, then north-east, and finally north. You will reach another fork.

(6) Turn right (east) and, at the first Fork in the road, veer left to quickly reach the Hourquette d’Ouscouaou hut.

(7) Then head down towards the north-east. Next, take a sharp left-hand bend and head down towards the south-east to reach Lac d’Ourrec, nestled in a wild and unspoilt setting.

(8) Retrace your steps and climb back up to the Hourquette d’Ouscouaou.

(7) Continue along the ridge to the left, heading due south.

(9) Shortly afterwards, carry on straight ahead and uphill along the steep nature trail (panoramic views). This will take you to Lac de Bassias, a secluded lake offering a peaceful atmosphere, with the possibility of camping (see regulations).

(10) Retrace your steps to the junction near the Hourquette d’Ouscouaou.

(9) Turn left and you’ll soon reach a fork you passed earlier.

(6) Head north-west along the path beneath the ridge. Walk for some time until you reach the Col de Moulata car park (S/E).
