Champis walks

A pleasant walk in the Ardèche countryside, sometimes on small paved roads, but also on beautiful forest paths. In Champis - La Bâtie de Crussol, a short detour will take you to the Pierre Branlante (rocking stone), then on the way back, you will see some megaliths in the meadows.

This short circuit, near Alboussière, alternates between wooded passages, opening onto pretty panoramas, and typical hamlets: the countryside wins us over!

A very pleasant walk along the paths of the commune of Champis, with a short detour into the communes of Saint-Romain-de-Lerps and Saint-Sylvestre. You’ll cross numerous small streams, including the Ozon and the Duzon. The walk follows mainly marked trails, eitherGR®® (white and red) orPR®® (white and yellow).

A pleasant, fairly flat route with little tarmac and some lovely views in beautiful countryside. The natural surroundings are stunning and the route is varied. The only downside is the 500 m stretch along the D533 at the end of the route to return to the starting point. It is possible to reach point 1 from point 8 to avoid the D533, adding an extra kilometre. Up to (6), the signposting is adequate, but after that it is sometimes discreet, so pay attention. Set off to explore Saint-Sylvestre with its forests and Ardèche culinary landscapes, magnificent views and picturesque hamlets.

A lovely walk around the Auberge du Pin, home to the famous Restaurant Pic. Beautiful views of the Vercors after the Serre de Coudiol and towards Perrier. A few tarmac roads but not too much traffic except on the Route des Crêtes.

Route starting from the Auberge du Pin, passing through the Col de Leyrisse. A third of the route is on small roads with very little traffic.

A fairly wild hike, with little tarmac, from the countryside to the ridges, with goodGR® yellow-white country signposting.

Walk in Gilhoc-sur-Ormèze. During this circular walk, you can admire the Château du Bessin and the Château des Boscs, both of which are inhabited, as well as the small Château de Dol and the ruins of the Château de Solignac.

A short, gentle walk around Saint-Romain-de-Lerps, mostly on the GR®420 trail, which takes you from the Belvédère du Pic (with an extraordinary 360° view) to the Col de Gazareau, passing through the hamlets of Combes and Beauliac.

A lovely hike offering beautiful views of the Rhône Valley, the Alps and the Ardèche. A 15-minute drive from Valence, this hike leads you around the beautiful surroundings of this small village. Note that Saint-Romain-de-Lerps is one of the classic walks in the area, because there is a beautiful lookout point with a chapel, 2 orientation tables and a picnic area alongside.

A stretch of up to 1,000 m between the regions of Lamastre and Vernoux in the Ardèche mountains.

Here is a route for road cyclists that isn’t very long but offers plenty for those keen on tackling mountain passes. The roads of the Vivarais are quiet and the idyllic countryside will delight the cyclist in you.

Starting from the Eygas plateau in Cornas, we climb to Saint-Romain-de-Lerps with a magnificent view of the Rhône valley and, in good weather, from Mont Ventoux to Mont Blanc via the Vercors and the Ecrins.Along the route, you’ll pass the chapels of Saint-Pierre and Le Pic, as well as a host of small hamlets. An easy hike between the plains of Saint-Péray and Cornas. We quickly move from the town to the countryside. The path along the railway line between St-Péray and Cornas is no longer accessible due to work on the St-Péray bypass.At (2), follow the D86 towards Cornas, then take the first street on your right after the Cornas petrol station to reach the level crossing (between 3 and 4).

Walk in the hills above Saint-Peray, passing through the Cornas vineyards, the meadows of Saint-Romain and the woods of Saint-Péray.

Starting from Saint-Péray, another way to explore the Roche Percée des Arlettes in Cornas. A walk offering numerous panoramic views of Crussol Castle, the Rhône Valley, the Vercors, the Trois Becs and as far as the Diois, plus the magnificent vineyards of Saint-Péray and Cornas.

A short walk in the Bois des Blaches along the Ruisseau du Saveyre, then up to the heights in the middle of the vineyards, first in Saint-Péray, then in Cornas. Return via the track linking Cornas to Saint-Péray. Please note that due to roadworks on the St Péray bypass, the return journey between points 10 and 11 is temporarily impossible. Continue along the D 86 on the footpath and cycle path to reach point 11 directly.

A short, leisurely stroll along the Mialan, to enjoy the views of Crussol Mountain, its castle, the vineyards, and above all the stream, which flows in autumn and winter but is dry at other times. This is a classic Sunday afternoon walk for all residents of Saint-Perolles.

Explore the ruins of La Villette and Crussol Castle, followed by a long walk along the ridges offering views of the Rhône valley and the Vercors.

This walk will take you past the vineyards that produce the famous Saint-Péray wine. You’ll be right up close to the Marsanne and Roussane vines, trained on stakes. This route also offers beautiful views of the town of Saint-Péray, Crussol Hill and its castle, as well as the Vercors in the distance.

A circular loop around the Crussol massif, passing by the three castles in the commune of Saint-Péray. Its main attraction is the quick ascent to the Crussol ridge, offering views of the Rhône valley and Crussol Castle from above on the south side. The route takes an hour to walk, but feel free to allow twice that time to enjoy the sites you pass through at your leisure.

This walk is a variation on the Cornas la Borne route. The first section offers a lovely walk above the Cornas vineyards, returning via familiar paths between (6) and (12) on the other route. The second variation involves the descent to the village of Cornas.

A walk that allows you to explore the historic site of Crussol Castle before continuing along the ridge through scenery alternating between holm oak woodland and views of the Rhône Valley, Crussol Mountain and the foothills of the Vercors and Ardèche.

A pleasant little walk around the Crussol site. First, a balcony path on the Guilherand-Granges side with views of the Rhône Valley, the Vercors, the Diois and beyond, then on the return journey a balcony path on the Ruisseau du Miallan side with views of the Ardèche, Saint-Péray and its vineyards. A word of advice: download the GPX track – there are a multitude of paths branching off on both sides along the route.

A very beautiful route, almost entirely on trails with varied scenery between ridges and undergrowth, on a route that takes few roads and forest paths.

This accessible circular route promises a total immersion in a unique environment as you explore the Montagne de Crussol, passing through the forest, the ridges and the ruined castle. It offers breathtaking views of the Rhône Valley, the Vercors and much more.

A very pleasant short walk starting from the station, which first takes us to the centre of Saint-Péray, then to the left bank of the Mialan, then along country lanes and finally along the balcony path beneath the Crussol ridges.

A beautiful hike through the forests above Boucieu-le-Roi in northern Ardèche. What's more, this charming village is a stop on the Ardèche train (Mastrou) and/or rail bike route. A visit to the village is therefore recommended. This hike can be shortened, as it consists of two circular loops that return to the village.

This route follows theGR®420for the most part, offering beautiful views of the Mézenc, the Gerbier des Joncs, the Baronnies and the Vercors. Vast and beautiful wild landscapes, numerous hamlets and the ruins of the Château de la Tourette overlooking the Ève valley reveal their charms.

Pending an alternative, this hike, which passes through private property between (11) and (12), is currently prohibited. Starting from Châteaubourg, you will cross the appellation vineyards to reach the Pic de Saint-Romain-de-Lerps, where you will have a 360° view of the Monts d'Ardèche and the Rhône Valley, with the Vercors and the Alps in the background. The orientation table will show you all this.

A lovely walk on the heights of Châteaubourg, with stunning views over the Rhône Valley and the hillsides of Saint-Joseph. Unfortunately, the end of the walk is on tarmac (very little traffic).

A route for experienced hikers near the Rhône Valley.

Not for those allergic to tarmac! A pleasant and varied hike, some sections of which follow small tarmac roads, as is often the case in the Ardèche. The first part takes place in the forest, where only birdsong disturbs the peace and quiet of the area. The second part follows theGR®42andGR®42Btrails, offering beautiful views of the Ardèche mountains, the Vernoux valley and the Rhône valley. Pierregourde Castle is very close to this circuit.

This hike, which is not technically difficult, allows you to admire the Bassin des Musards Bird Sanctuary and the village of La Roche De Glun.

A family walk that takes you along the peaceful but wild banks of the Rhône to the Malpas plateau overlooking the town of Soyons.

This walk allows you to explore caves (admission fee), then enjoy a magnificent view from the Serre de Guercy and see a feudal ruin, the Tour Penchée, built on an ancient Gallic oppidum.

Hike south of Tournon, climbing up a wild, wooded valley. The descent is easier, with a final circular loop through the vineyards. This hike has three circular routes, so you can adjust the route to suit your preferences.
