Parking is available in a small car park at the northern entrance to the village of Chateaubourg, with around 10 parking spaces. Travelling north-south, this car park is located 200 m before the village sign.
(S/E) From the car park, head south towards the N86, without crossing it, and turn right onto the track.
(1) At the fork, turn sharply left, then turn right. Do not join the road.
(2) At this other fork, turn sharply left until you reach the small tarmac road. Follow it to the right. Beautiful view of the village and vineyards.
(3) There is a shortcut straight up the hill, which you can avoid by staying on the road.
(4) After passing Les Machons, the path on the left allows you to avoid the road, but it is not very well marked. Stay to the left of the old path, which is overgrown with brambles. Return to the road further up and, at the fork, keep right and return to the road at elevation 381.
(5) You will find the path marked in yellow and white. Follow the road to the right. Leave the two roads on the right to continue towards Margillière, following the markings.
(6) On the IGN map, the route is on the right and you used to pass two fences, but the owners no longer allow this. Continue straight ahead and, at the tarmac road, turn right and, opposite the houses in Marsanne, take the path on the left that goes up to Séverin.
(7) You have finished the climb! Take the time to take photos and admire the view. In good weather, you can see Mont Blanc. The descent is through the woods, heading due north.
(8) You will come to a wide track on the right, which you follow downhill to the hamlet of Combes.
(9) Turn left, heading north-northeast, and pass under the high-voltage power lines.
(10) Take the road on the left towards Les Bâtiments Neufs and you will come to a fork.
(11) Cross the fence to pass near the Pommeries ruins, follow the well-marked but unmarked path.
(12) You will arrive at a beautiful rock with a view of the steep-sided Rioudard valley.
(13) Carefully cross the N86 to find the passage under the railway line on your left.
Walk along the railway line on your right, heading south. You will come to a road.
(14) Turn right, then left, following the road parallel to the railway tracks.
(15) At the entrance to the village, turn right onto the bridge over the railway tracks.
Walk along the right-hand side of the N86 road at the edge of the field for about 200 metres and cross it carefully to reach the car park on the right (S/E).
