Description of the walk

Head to Place Santo Tirso, located near the church of Saint-Péray, and park in one of the many parking spaces around the École Sainte-Famille.

Without signposts
(S/E) From the car park, head towards the church via Rue Antonin Basset to reach Place de l'Église. Turn left onto Rue Pasteur and continue to Rue de la République. Turn right, then quickly left onto Rue de Crussol, which leads to Quai du Docteur Jules Bouvat. Cross the road, then take the footbridge opposite, which crosses the Mialan.

Red and whiteGR®42Bmarkings
Go straight across the roundabout and follow Rue de Marcale, which veers slightly to the right. After 50 metres, turn left and follow the path uphill (signposted "voie sans issue" [dead end]). After 100 metres, look for a gate on the right with two lions above it. Continue for another 20 metres and leave the path to take a trail on the left that starts at the corner of another gate. Join the road at the entrance to the Château de Beauregard.

(1) Turn right and follow the road uphill (tarmac), then quickly leave it and turn right onto a beautiful paved path. 250m further up, pass several flights of steps to come back onto a small road. Turn left towards the car park and quickly turn right onto the track that runs alongside the car park.

(2) You will arrive at a building and the Verdure theatre. Go around the building on the left and follow the steps on the right that lead up to an esplanade. Continue climbing on the left, following the path again. 20 m further on, continue left towards Soyons. Enter the ruins of La Villette through an old fortified gate. At a crossroads at the foot of a solitary tree, turn right and stay on the main marked path to reach the ruins of Crussol Castle. It is possible to visit the ruins, but be careful of the unsecured areas at the edge of the cliffs.

(3) Follow the path that climbs southwards along the ridges, sometimes through holm oak woods or in open country offering beautiful views of the Rhône Valley.

(4) At the Chardancet signpost, continue in the same direction towards Soyons along the ridge, leaving the path that descends to the right and leads to the Théâtre de Verdure. 500m further on, at the Ployes le haut signpost, continue in the same direction.

(5) When you reach the Les Écoles signpost, continue in the same direction, leaving the path on your right. About 200 metres further on, turn left at a crossroads and continue on the path that passes just below the ridges.

Pass the old quarries, ignore a path on the right that descends and continue straight ahead on the stony path. Begin the descent, then after a left-hand bend, follow a vineyard to reach a paved road at the Les Enfers signpost.

(6) Turn right onto this road towards Soyons.

Yellow and white signposts
At the next crossroads, turn right and do the same at the next one to pass close to the place called Le Châtaignier. 500m further on, ignore a road on the left at La Pinatte and continue. Follow the bend to the left and arrive at a crossroads.

(7) Go down the road on the left to get closer to the houses. Turn right and join the D279 at a stop sign.

No signposts
(8) Turn right onto the pavement, ignore the road that branches off to the right and cross the bridge over the Mialan. At number 1649, leave the road and turn right onto a path that leads to the edge of the stream (often dry). Turn left and follow the wide path along the bank. Cross a footbridge and continue straight ahead on the path. Go under the D533, pass a footbridge that crosses the Mialan on the right and continue straight ahead. 20 metres further on, the path turns sharply left, crosses Place Henri Richard and joins Rue Ferdinand Malet.

(9) Turn right. At the next intersection, continue straight ahead on Rue de la République until you reach the corner of Rue Pasteur. Turn left onto Rue Pasteur, then right onto Rue Antonin Basset to return to the car park (S/E).

Very beautiful hike. Beautiful views. No particular difficulty. Very crowded up to the castle, but much quieter after that

A beautiful hike with exceptional views of Valence and the Rhône. Behind you, you will discover the Ardèche. A 360-degree view at Crussol Castle.
Beautiful cliffs, pretty woodland and a stunning open-air theatre

An easy and very pleasant hike. I did it in April, so there weren't many people, especially once past the electricity pylons. There are benches along the route for those who need them, and the village of Châteaubourg is very pretty

A pleasant and accessible hike (completed with two children aged 7 and 9).
Magnificent views and a walk through Crussol Castle.
The only downside was the last part of the hike, which was on tarmac.

I did this beautiful hike on my own one weekday morning in October... Needless to say, I didn't meet many people, just one person to be precise... The first part is magical. Once you've climbed up to the castle, which is the only difficult part of the route, you're on the ridges overlooking the Rhône valley. Magnificent!
The return trip is more unremarkable but pleasant. The estimated time for the route seems a little long, even when visiting the castle and taking lots of photo breaks. I completed the tour in 2.5 hours... without running. In any case, I recommend it.

A lovely little hike with magnificent views.
We combined two trails:
the first part followed route no. 370467, 'Château de Crussol et ses crêtes' (Crussol Castle and its ridges), to point no. 6.
the second part followed route no. 17959624, 'Les balcons de Crussol à Saint Péray', to point no. 8, which is common to both routes.

A very beautiful hike that allows you to discover the magnificent Crussol Castle, which is well worth a visit despite being quite badly damaged. The view of the Rhône valley and the Ardèche mountains is magnificent. It's a shame that from point 6, the return journey is along a small road and then a paved path, which are not very interesting. I should have read Ms Palandre's suggestion and returned via the path at point 7.
We had some difficulty finding the right path from Saint Péray, then finding the trail again after visiting the castle: in fact, you just have to follow the white and red marks and go under a small gate with the marks on either side.
With the back and forth and the climb and descent to find the path, especially near the castle, it was 12 km and 400 metres of elevation gain.

a hiking spot we know well because we've been there several times on different routes. The scenery is magnificent. The ridge passages are always tricky, and the castle is increasingly well maintained.

we didn't want to return via the road and the town, so at point 7 we turned right twice and found a very pleasant yellow and white marked path through the woods which took us back to the starting point. This shortens the walk by 500 m compared to the description.

I really enjoyed this magnificent hike.
I got lost after passing through the underworld, where I made a loop through the Roman ruins and found myself between passages 5 and 6. Not really knowing where to go, I returned to point 5 to take the yellow and white marked path (towards Saint Peray!). I couldn't see the path to point 7/8.
it was 7 km instead of the advertised 11 km.
I did it with my dog on a leash.
There was a very narrow passage and the path was covered in small stones. I would advise against taking children or pushchairs (not suitable) for fear of them falling, as there are some dangerous sections. Even I felt uneasy.
It's definitely worth a visit

A magnificent hike with breathtaking views of Guilherand-Granges, Valence, the surrounding villages and the Rhône Valley to the north and south. Exceptional panoramic views!!!
The only downside is that from point 8, i.e. at the Mialan bridge and therefore for the last 3 km, the hike is not interesting (passing close to houses on a path with no views and no trees), which contrasts sharply with the rest of the walk. It's a real shame that there isn't another trail available.
Please note ⚠️, I strongly advise against doing this hike with children due to the numerous passages close to cliffs.

Very beautiful hike and beautiful view from the top of the ridges. I followed the GPX trail, the only downside being the end of the hike, which was too much road
