Park in the car park on the right at the hairpin bend, about 400 m after the town hall and the state school on the D279.
(S/E) Cross the D279 to take Rue des Ormeaux opposite, then turn left onto Rue du Temple. At the next junction, follow Rue du Moutat straight ahead, leaving Chemin des Huguenots on your right, and continue straight on until you reach the start of the path on the left markedGR®® 42 (red and white markings).
(1) Turn left here, then immediately right to follow theGR®® 42 for about 2 km towards the Col des Ayes. You will reach a road.
(2) Do not follow it, but continue along the path on the right running parallel to the road, leaving theGR®® to join the D479 below the Col des Ayes.
(3) Walk down the road to the right for a few metres and immediately take a path climbing up the embankment on the left. Follow it for about 1 km. It winds gently through the woods. Pass beneath the premises of a car wrecker and keep to the path on the left, continuing downhill until you cross the Ruisseau des Ayes.
(4) Cross the stream and turn left to follow it alongside, continuing downhill until you rejoin the D479.
(5) Follow the road to the right for about 400 m until you rejoin theGR®® 42 (marked in white and red).
(6) Leave the road, turn left and follow this marked path which climbs gently towards the Col des Ayes.
(7) About fifty metres before the pass, take the small road on the right. Keep left at the three-way junction and follow the tarmac road known as Chemin de Chalamand, passing close to (2). You’ll arrive at a large flat area above the Chalamant Lodge. Head up the track on the left until you reach a large timber storage area.
(8) Turn right onto the path with a ‘No Entry’ sign: this does not apply to us but to the land behind the sign. The path becomes a steeply descending track; take care as there are many stones. Very nice views to the east and west. Join Rue du Moutat.
(1) Head back down the path you came up to return to the car park (S/E).
