La Légre via Les Blaches from Saint-Péray

A short walk in the Bois des Blaches along the Ruisseau du Saveyre, then up to the heights in the middle of the vineyards, first in Saint-Péray, then in Cornas. Return via the track linking Cornas to Saint-Péray. Please note that due to roadworks on the St Péray bypass, the return journey between points 10 and 11 is temporarily impossible. Continue along the D 86 on the footpath and cycle path to reach point 11 directly.

Description of the walk

Starting point: Crussol secondary school car park, Rue René Cassin in Saint-Péray.

(S/E) Head west on Rue René Cassin and follow the GR®42. After a steep climb, you will arrive at the Les Blaches hiking signpost.

(1) Leave the GR®42 trail as it descends to the right, continue to the left, cross the Ruisseau de Saveyre stream once and follow it along the right bank. Leave the trail that branches off to the left, cross the Ruisseau de Saveyre stream again and continue along the left bank until you reach a large dead oak tree at the edge of the trail. Go around it, turn left, cross a pine forest and join a crossroads of paths.

(2) Turn left.

(3) At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead, leaving the path that branches off to the left. At a hairpin bend in the path, turn left at a place called Côte Chaude. The slope becomes a little steeper until you reach the small Route de Clarençon. Follow it to the left and go through the hairpin bend.

(4) Just after, take the Chemin des Vignes that branches off to the right, turn left at the next crossroads, then keep right at the next one and you will arrive at the Chemin des Prés.

(5) Follow it to the right, heading east, pass under a power line and, at the end of the tarmac (entrance to the Haras des Poneys d'Éole), take the path downhill, furthest to the right. Leave the first path on your right.

(6) Join the GR®42 and follow it to the left. Continue to the Rougeole crossroads (hiking signpost).

(7) Turn left, heading north, passing under another power line, and follow the path, which is flat at first and then descends, leading to the Sabarote neighbourhood. Join a small tarmac road.

(8) Take the path on the far right under the arrival path, ignore the paths on the right, and keep left. The path winds through the vineyards. At the bottom of the slope, cross a concrete passage (intermittent stream), turn left and pass a concrete structure.

(9) At the next crossroads, turn right, arrive at Impasse des Iris and turn right, heading south, to join the D86 (Avenue Colonel Rousset). Cross the D86 at the pedestrian crossing, continue south and join Rue des Lavandes. Follow it eastwards, pass Rue des Jonquilles and continue to the next crossroads.

(10) Turn right, heading south, onto the street parallel to the railway line (Chemin des Campanules), pass two streets leading into housing estates. You will come to a passage under the railway line.

(11) Take the street on the right, then right again and quickly left, go up Rue Emile Palayer to reach the D86, cross it (pedestrian crossing) and turn left.

(12) Then quickly turn right onto the road leading into the vineyards. After about 200 m, turn left onto the road leading to Rue Raoul Follereau, opposite the Crussol secondary school, and continue straight ahead along Allée du Collège until you reach the car park (S/E).

A pleasant and varied hike: paths, forest, vineyards, tarmac. A nice spot near the pony club where you can stop and chat with the curious horses. Beautiful views, with Crussol Castle watching over us regularly. Thank you to the author of this hike.
