Circular walk between Ponsoye and La Croix Saint-André

A pleasant walk along the paths between the Col de Ponsoye and the Croix Saint-André, returning via the Mialan springs. The entire first section up to the Croix Saint-André follows the GR®420, a variant of the GR®42.

Description of the walk

The car park is on the D14, about 200 m to the right after the Col de Ponsoye when approaching from the north.

(S/E) Head back towards the Col de Ponsoye:take great care, as there is quite a lot of traffic.

(1) Before reaching the pass, cross the D14 carefully and take the path leading uphill on your right, following the red and white markings of the GR®420. Continue to the ‘Cerisier’ signpost.

(2) Head straight on along the GR® 20; the climb becomes steeper before the path descends into the woods of the Serre de Fiole Bise.

(3) At the next junction, head straight on, following the sign for “Loubières”. Cross a small road and continue straight ahead to the Croix Saint-André junction.

(4) Take the D279 on your left, towards Toulaud. Follow it for about 600 m until you reach the first road junction.

(5) Head straight on along the downhill path that runs alongside a meadow. Follow the path alongside the meadow until you reach the edge of the woods.

(6) Turn right and you’ll soon reach a junction with a much wider path. Follow it to the left and carry on to the next junction.

(7) Keep to the left, ignoring the turn-off to the house at Loriol. At the next junction, go straight on along the path which descends gently.

(8) At this junction, take the track on the right towards the Ruisseau de Martin, cross it and head for the houses at Bras.

(9) Follow the small tarmac road uphill to the first hairpin bend.

(10) Leave the tarmac road and take the path opposite, which crosses the small stream that is in fact the source of the Mialan. Reach the hamlet of Les Méalys, go past it and follow the track climbing up to your left. Continue to the sharp bend to the left, where there is a junction of three paths.

(11) Take the third path on the right – the flattest one – which then descends and joins a small tarmac road. Continue straight ahead, due north, to reach the hamlet of Ponsoye, and carry on to the junction after the first houses.

(12) Turn left onto the small, uphill road leading to the Col de Ponsoye on the D14. Follow this road carefully, keeping to the left, to reach the car park (S/E).
