Benney walks

A walk through the rolling countryside and woods on the edge of the Saintois region, passing through the villages of Benney, Crévechamps and Saint-Remimont. Author’s note, 2 January 2020: Access to this private woodland is permitted subject to certain conditions. See practical information below

Discover the castles of the Saintois region in Haroué and Tantonville, the moulded lintels in the villages, the churches and the 360° views.

A pleasant walk which, in its first section, offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside as you head towards Voinémont and, on the return journey, winds its way along the many bends of the Madon with magnificent colours, varying with the seasons, and made even more sublime by the autumn sun.

Walk around the village of Flavigny-sur-Moselle, passing through the village, along the Canal de l'Est and through the Bois de Benney.

Hike between the wild Moselle, ponds and the Canal de l'Est (southern branch). A very pleasant route in spring or summer. Beautiful views of the wild Moselle and the canal.

A hilly circuit where you can enjoy the Saintois countryside and the nearby Madon, with breathtaking views of the Château d'Haroué (9) and the hill of Sion.

A hike around the village of Richardménil, passing through the Bois Leleau, the Bois Impérial, the Tombouctou plateau with a view of Ludres and Nancy, a visit to the Saint Georges Church before returning via the Canal des Vosges.

Starting from Flavigny-sur-Moselle, the route follows the Canal de l’Est, climbs through the woods towards Burthécourt-aux-Chênes, crosses the plain to reach Azelot and the railway line, then returns through the woods

An undulating, easy circuit among the mirabelle plum trees on the heights of the Moselle.

On the lands of Charles-Nicolas-Sigisbert Sonnini de Manoncourt, french naturalist, born on1 February 1751 in Lunéville and died on 9 May 1812 in Paris.

This is a pleasant walk offering beautiful views of the Moselle and allowing you to discover the ruins of the medieval castle of Bainville-aux-Miroirs, as well as an old nail factory and its large wheel, an industrial relic in a rural setting. In the second part of the route, a path through a nature reserve allows you to get close to the wild Moselle and its surroundings before following the Canal de l'Est (southern branch) along the shaded towpath.

A double circular route through the Madon valley to visit the villages of Frolois, Pierreville, Autrey-sur-Madon and Pulligny.

Many fruit trees to see along the way. Departure from Coyviller, then visit Manoncourt-en-Vermois, the Charles Sonnoni memorial and return to Coyviller.

Part of the Tour du Grand Nancy route, a circular stage between Coyviller and Rosières-aux-Salines. A walk mainly along gravel tracks, except in the Bois de la Blanche Croix. Setting off from the village of Coyviller along a lovely track, the route arrives above Rosières-aux-Salines with a view of the salt pans, then descends into the village to visit these three monuments: the church, the fountain and the fortified tower. Climb back up onto the plateau to reach the Bois de la Blanche Croix, where you’ll find a blockhouse with its shelter and trenches – a remnant of the First World War – offering a stunning view over the Meurthe valley. Return via tracks and a short stretch of road to reach the two ponds at Coyviller.

A getaway from the centre of Richardménil to its neighbouring towns: Méréville, Messein, Ludres and Fléville. This almost triangular route follows or runs alongside the old freight routes: the Canal de l'Est, now the Canal des Vosges, the Canal de Jonction and the old railway lines serving the Ludres-Fléville industrial zone. If you cross this industrial zone during the week, you will understand why barges and trains no longer run in the area... Route updated in January 2026.

A beautiful walk through orchards, with views of the Vosges mountains and Nancy. This walk is particularly interesting in April when the mirabelle plum trees are in bloom.

This route takes us to the large Arpontois Oak via a pretty path in the Bois d'Arpontois, climbs above the Blanches Côtes to take us to Bralleville via the plateau with magnificent views of the Vau farm and the Saintois. From Bralleville to Xirocourt, the return journey is via a path between fields and the river.

A circular, rural loop with beautiful views and a stop at the Groupe Lorraine 42 monument. Pass by the mirabelle plum orchards.

A lovely little walk through fields and a small patch of woodland with a view of Nancy in the distance, not to mention the view of the orchards at Coyviller.  No signposting

Start from Messein and return via the village of Méréville. A circular route with easy conditions, mostly on cycle paths.

From Praye, head to the Maurice Barrès monument via the Bois de Plaimont. Visit the village of Vaudémont. Return via the plain, passing beneath the hill and the village of Chaouilley. Return to Praye via the path halfway up the hillside, passing beneath the statue of the Virgin Mary.

Start between the canal and the Moselle, then follow the right bank to the Maron. Return along the left bank via Sexey-aux-Forges and Pont-Saint-Vincent. Discover how iron ore was transported from the old mines at Sexey-aux-Forges.
