Description of the walk

(S/E) The walk starts at the small square of Les Blanches Vignes, behind the church, on Rue de l’Abbé Collet in Voinémont. Leave the car park and turn right. Join Rue de la Chapelle and continue straight on. At the junction by the chapel, continue straight on.

(1) Join the D61 and turn right, then take the first small road on the left, Chemin du Bois, which turns into a track. At the junction with the D6, cross the road and continue straight on to reach the motorway.

(2) Go under the motorway and turn right, following the motorway. Take the second path on the left, then the first path on the right. At the end of the path, turn left.

(3) Join a track and turn right, pass through a barrier to stop cars and continue straight on along this track.

(4) Join a small road and turn right, go over the motorway and continue along this road to enter the village of Benney, passing in front of the water tower. At the first junction, continue straight on along the Grande Rue.

(5) At the next junction, turn right, staying on the Grande Rue, towards Ceintrey. Then turn into the first street on the left, Rue de l’Église, to find yourself on Rue Saint-Martin in front of the church.

(6) At the church, turn right, then left onto Rue de l'Atre, then left again onto Rue D'Ormes; continue straight on past the cemetery and carry on along this road, passing between the farms.

(7) At the first large bend, take the path on the right and continue straight on to join Chemin des Voissieux, enter the village of Lemainville and continue straight on.

(8) At the end of the road, turn right, then take the first uphill street on the right, Rue de l'Abbé Maréchal, pass by the side of the church and, at the end of the street, turn right for a few metres to see the wayside shrine.

(9) At the calvary, retrace your steps and continue straight on along the Grande Rue to cross the village, passing the fountains and the wash house.

(8) Continue straight on until the end of the street.

(10) At the roundabout at the Notre-Dame des Anges Chapel, turn right towards Nancy, cross over the Ruisseau des Près and reach the wayside shrine.

(11) At the Calvary, follow the Chemin sous la Côte, which turns into a track. Continue straight on along this track to reach Voinémont at the Notre-Dame de Pitié Chapel.

(12) At the chapel, turn left and continue straight on to reach the car park (S/E).

An afternoon stroll on a grey, gloomy November day. It’s true, in spring I’d feel more positive about it… I think this route is better suited to mountain biking than walking, given the amount of tarmac involved, but I admit that over this distance, it’s a bit of a struggle…

We enjoyed passing through Voinemont, a village awarded the ‘Beautiful Village of Lorraine’ label, with its Saint-Étienne church and its round bell tower, which houses a late-Medieval fresco, the restored Notre-Dame-de-Pitié chapel, and the two wash-house fountains that are still in use.Following “franchie”’s comment, it is possible to avoid the motorway; so, at Le Haut des Chèvres, turn immediately right towards Le Haut des Fours to arrive directly at the Benney water tower. It’s a bit of a shame, but we leave Benney heading for Lemainville via the road ...............
In Lemainville, there are three late 19th-century fountains, made in Varigney, Haute-Saône, and a wash house from the second half of the 19th century, on the site of a ford, opposite the town hall.
A lovely circular route and a beautiful walk....

A pleasant walk through fields and woodland, and along the River Madon, passing through pretty villages in Lorraine. The proximity of the motorway causes a bit of noise pollution, but it doesn’t last too long, and it depends on which way the wind is blowing – the very same wind that also brings us the scent of the magnificent flowers in this lovely month of May.
