Worth a visit

This walk takes you along part of the Neuves Maisons wide-gauge canal, which opened in 1979 to accommodate 1,500-tonne barges.
Walk to the end of the island to see the point where the Moselle splits and the wide-gauge canal begins.
Between points (4) and (5), on the old Toul–Neuves Maisons railway line, you can see an old iron ore silo which, using the Zinzin system (cable-hauled buckets), was used to load wagons bound for the Neuves Maisons plant from the mines at Sexey-aux-Forges.
At point (10), beneath the road bridge, you can see a former lock from the first Moselle canal.
At point (11), at the port of Rocmet, chute 2 was used to load two 280-tonne barges per day between 1860 and 1870 with iron ore from the Sainte-Anne mine in Sexey-aux-Forges bound for Neuves Maisons; you can also see a former footbridge on the towpath between Pont-Saint-Vincent and Maron. For those interested, take a look at the excellent website featuring numerous period photographs of the town of Sexey-aux-Forges: History of Sexey-aux-Forges
At point 13::, see the remains of the old Pont-Saint-Vincent swimming pool on the banks of the Moselle.

A very pleasant and easy walk, both in terms of the route description and the difficulty.
We chose to take route 2, as we felt the distance was just right.
No difficulties whatsoever.
If you’re looking for a lovely walk, don’t hesitate.

A lovely walk in the sunshine on Sunday morning. We chose route no. 2, which is about 13 km long. It was an easy walk, straightforward to follow and well signposted. I’d recommend it.

It’s easy to find a parking space for a walk starting in the town, but you’re soon out in the countryside. The walk is gentle and easy. We had a picnic on the Maron jetty below the bridge. The first part runs between the Moselle and the canal, and afterwards we pass through Maron and Sexey-aux-Forges. There’s nothing extraordinary to see, apart from the peaceful countryside and all the sights that go with it: water, ducks and herons galore, anglers and very little noise – hardly any at all. In short, you walk, get some fresh air and recharge your batteries – that’s a lovely way to spend the day.
