Vaucluse walks

Take a walk between Mormoiron and Villes-sur-Auzon on the trails of old ochre quarries.

Following the paths that wind through the rows of vines, this tour takes you to the foot of the rocky bars of the Dentelles de Montmirail, finely chiselled against the Provencal sky, with Mont Ventoux as a backdrop. A hike for everyone. You will find typical Mediterranean vegetation, protected flora and fauna. Equip yourself with good walking shoes and water. Respect nature and the silence (take your rubbish with you). Making fires, picking flowers and wild camping are strictly prohibited. Only follow the waymarking colours mentioned in the description.

An exceptional walk for young and old alike! In summer in the amazing coolness of the rock (10 to 15°C difference) and the rest of the year with the risk of walking in the water like adventurers! => Passage through crevices where it is impossible for two people to pass, with large caves to discover! => Dogs are not allowed on this walk. You are entering the Réserve Biologique Domaniale and Réserve naturelle nationale géologique du Luberon. This site is extremely fragile and difficult to access in certain places. Discover Thor, located downstream from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, which benefits from the many sorghums flowing from the resurgence of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. On one of the few hills in the Comtat Venaissin plain, a little way from the town, stands the Château de Thouzon and, in its lower part, the caves of the same name.

Excellent walk with an amazing uphill trail to "Les Rochers de Baude" leading to the ridges of the "Luberon plateau"

The walk starts near Gordes (listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France) and passes through the Véroncle gorge to Murs and its castle. A very pleasant, energetic walk in the ravine of the Véroncle gorges, discovering the remains of old mills from different periods along the way. There are a few ladders and ropes, and an old sluice shaft that cannot be avoided.

A demanding route that climbs up to the crests above Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, where you will have unrivalled views.

Discover the vegetation's biodiversity of the Mont Ventoux. From Bedoin, take the road (by car) leading to the Mont Ventoux. Cross the remarkable cedar's forest then the beech forest will appear. Continue (approx. 10km) until you find a car park on the right-hand side. (Jas des Melettes)

A loop that takes you to the hamlet of Seguins along the ridges of the Grand Luberon through Sivergues and Chastelas.

A short loop to discover these two characteristic rock formations as well as Saint-Christophe's Chapel, which protects the site, taking a less conventional route.

A circuit on old cart tracks with ruts worn in the stone (“rodans”), then along the Carpentras Canal and over the Galas Aqueduct. Splendid views over the Sorgue and an opportunity to visit the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.

The waters of the Sorgue' dynamism has fostered industrial activities: milling, drapery, paper mill, silk industry... At the height of the occupation, 66 wheels were installed. This walk allows you to discover the few wheels still present but also to enjoy the clarity of these waters frequented by mallards, swans and chars. Numerous facilities allow you to get closer to the water, or even to dip a toe in...

City walk to discover Avignon, the unmissable Saint-Bénezet bridge and the Palais des Papes, but also all the lesser known historical monuments that are worth a visit.

Lovely hike without much difficulty. After climbing uphill for just under a kilometre, just enough time to reach an altitude of 700 m, where the the panoramic view of Lubéron with its lowlands and further below the valley behind Murs, opens up to you. Just for your enjoyment, this view will last for more than 4 km. The majority of the circular hike is through forest paths.

A very easy walk. The first part up to the dam, very pleasant and shady. There's not shade on second part until you arrive, so wear hats in sunny weather. Numerous birds and in particular grey herons, cormorants, swans etc. are visible near the water and on the banks of the Rhone.

A forested circuit to reach the Saint-Hubert farm, then the second part of the route on the cliffs above the Nesque gorge.

The walk begins with a visit to the Colorado Provençal lookout trail (pedestrian rate) run by the Association du Colorado de Rustrel and continues with a tour of the Colorado via the ridges (GR®) to discover views of other ochre quarries. The walk takes in all the different colours of ochre in these old open-air quarries. Please note: the Parking des Mille Couleurs is reserved exclusively for visitors to the two signposted trails managed by the Association du Colorado de Rustrel for a limited time of around 3 hours. If you wish to hike the Tour du Colorado, you must park in the village and pay only the pedestrian entrance fee for the Belvederes trail.

The Mourre Nègre, the highest point in the Luberon mountain range, offers breathtaking views from its crest, stretching from the Étang de Berre to the Southern Alps and including the Sainte-Victoire and Mont Ventoux peaks. On the way down, passing through the Vallon du Roumi, you can get close to the ruins (currently being restored) of the ancient Château Saint-Pierre and the adjoining chapel of the same name.

A hike on little-known tracks in the districts of Lacoste, Goult and Ménerbes. An overview of nearly ten centuries of history, comprising the chapel, the old abbey and the castle.

On the southern slope of Le Petit Luberon, this trail is for experienced hikers due to two steep rises and randomly waymarked trails.

A pleasant circuit, partly in the shade of the forest, to discover many very well-preserved stone huts (“bories”) and splendid olive groves.

From Cabrières-d'Avignon, this is a nice circle route leading to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse going along the Wall of the Plague (Mur de la Peste) and passing by Fontaine-de-Vaucluse castle.

A lovely walk to discover some very narrow gorges, but with no great difficulty, and a beautiful view of the Durance plain on the way back. Ideal for families. Beware: there are some steep sections inside the gorges. You are entering the Luberon National Geological Reserve and Réserve Biologique Domaniale. This is an extremely fragile site. Please respect the site (see practical information). => Avoid this hike from January to September, preferring mornings or late afternoons.

There is a plethora of routes, all with varied and unconventional signposting. In short, you can get lost! And you can even find some dangerous spots. On this safe hike, you'll admire some splendidly original landscapes, with colours ranging from blood red to golden yellow. An absolute must! Discovering the Roman city of Orange and its heritage with the very famous Antique Theatre (Théâtre Antique), which annually hosts the Chorégies d’Orange festival.

A pretty walk around Saumane-de-Vaucluse. Fine scenery and troglodytic dwellings. Since a lot of the walk is in the shade of the forest, it is pleasant in hot weather.

A short trail to discover the hidden attractions of the western part of Cabrières d'Avignon: olive groves, vineyards, hills, cedars, the Plague Wall (the "Mur de la Peste")

A fine loop starting from Les Taillades. You will walk through varied scenery such as the Source of the Boulon, the cliffs of the Petit Luberon, the Rochers de Baude cliff and the Badarel Gorge, the Carpentras Canal and the old village. This walk is not recommended for people suffering from vertigo. See the “Useful information” section.

Sometimes in the woods, sometimes in the vineyards, this walk takes you through the countryside of the Rhone Valley and Mont Ventoux.
