Gordes walks

A beautiful, easy hike that takes you to some of the most beautiful sites in the Luberon, including the villages of Gordes and Les Bories and Sénanque Abbey.

Loop around Gordes and its dry stone dwellings, through the valley of Sénancole and its unique Sénanque Abbey.

The walk starts near Gordes (listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France) and passes through the Véroncle gorge to Murs and its castle. A very pleasant, energetic walk in the ravine of the Véroncle gorges, discovering the remains of old mills from different periods along the way. There are a few ladders and ropes, and an old sluice shaft that cannot be avoided.

The route leads up the Véroncle canyon then down the south-facing slopes of the Monts de Vaucluse.

A very pleasant loop in a varied and, in places, wild landscape, offering beautiful views of Sénanque Abbey and Mont Ventoux.

Starting from Saint-Pantaléon-de-Gordes, where you mustn't forget to visit the small Romanesque church with its rock necropolis, this is an easy little circular route that winds through the undergrowth and between traditional Provençal dry stone walls. Numerous drystone shelters line the route, some accessible, others on private property. Walkers can also discover the remains of an old Jas and, well hidden in an oak forest, the longest drystone shelter in Provence, which is in perfect condition. A private path is available for the respectful use of hikers and cyclists, excluding all motor vehicles. The app's GPS is highly recommended on this route.

A very beautiful loop (technical in places) in wild gorges with varied and pleasant trails that alternate between undergrowth, a hamlet, pools in the bed of the Véroncle and mills in picturesque gorges. At the request of some hikers, I have classified this hike as 'difficult' Allow 5 hours for this hike, not 3 hours 45 minutes as indicated. Do not do this hike with a dog, in rainy weather or after rain, or in excessively hot weather. Read the reviews.

From Cabrières-d'Avignon, this is a nice circle route leading to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse going along the Wall of the Plague (Mur de la Peste) and passing by Fontaine-de-Vaucluse castle.

It also includes Léopold Truc's "paradise", stone shelters ("bories") and olive groves.

A pleasant circuit, partly in the shade of the forest, to discover many very well-preserved stone huts (“bories”) and splendid olive groves.

If you want a challenging circular with handrails, cables, etc. On the programme: descent of the Gorges de La Véroncle with some of its ruined mills and ascent of the Combe de Vaumale.

Be prepared to visit the caves on all fours or even crawling, but it's worth the detour. A little dusty clay, a few harmless bats, but a magnificent sight once inside. So avoid wearing a suit and opt for less easily soiled clothing. The rest of the walk will offer you generous sunshine and all along the trail you can see the Combe Denca and the Luberon in the distance and even Sainte-Beaume. The hike takes you along small paths lined with holm oaks, thyme and rosemary.

Lovely hike without much difficulty. After climbing uphill for just under a kilometre, just enough time to reach an altitude of 700 m, where the the panoramic view of Lubéron with its lowlands and further below the valley behind Murs, opens up to you. Just for your enjoyment, this view will last for more than 4 km. The majority of the circular hike is through forest paths.

A hike with many points of interest, from its geography and variety of landscapes to the remains of two largely unknown castles and the discovery of the typical village of Lagnes. A break on the banks of the Sorgue will allow you to enjoy a most welcome moment of tranquillity.

From the Hermitage of Saint-Gens, this trail climbs back up to the miraculous spring, then winds its way across the plateau along the historic Plague Wall trail and returns via the Combe de Capellan and the holm oak forests of the Monts de Vaucluse.

Set off to discover some of the gems in the Fontaine-de-Vaucluse region, such as the semi-troglodyte shelter in Marculy, the old Valescure farm and the watchtower at the top of the valley between Mourre Pelé and Trois Luisants.

A pretty walk around Saumane-de-Vaucluse. Fine scenery and troglodytic dwellings. Since a lot of the walk is in the shade of the forest, it is pleasant in hot weather.

This circular route allows you to discover many picturesque landscapes such as the Falaise de la Madeleine in Lioux and the Combe de la Sigalière, as well as the Col de la Ligne, offering a view of Mont Ventoux. The route consists mainly of small, isolated and very quiet roads winding between scrubland and forests.

A peaceful, easy walk. Climb up to the plateau planted with fruit trees, then descend through very narrow gorges, less than a metre wide in places.

Walk up Vaumale valley along a beautiful trail equipped with climbing aids and then come back down the wilder and less rocky Lioux valley.

Discover the Combe de Lioux, which is narrow in places, with its natural caves, as you walk in the cool shade. Leave the valley to cross the cedar forest and reach the Château de Saint-Lambert, a former sanatorium that has been abandoned and vandalised. After a descent, you will reach the Falaise de la Madeleine, a remarkable site with an impressive view of the village of Lioux and a 360° panorama.

A pleasant short hike with magnificent views of Mont Ventoux, the Alpilles and the Luberon.

Visit the rocky and airy Combe de Capellan, then the wooded and more humid Combe de la Fontaine du Rupt. Views of the Comtat and, of course, the inevitable Ventoux. At the end, you can visit the village of Venasque, a medieval gem.

Hike in the Petit Luberon, after visiting the Sainte Cécile garden and the old medieval village. The first part is very steep with a tricky section on a ledge, but it is doable and should not be attempted in wet weather.

A hike on little-known tracks in the districts of Lacoste, Goult and Ménerbes. An overview of nearly ten centuries of history, comprising the chapel, the old abbey and the castle.

This loop allows you to discover the villages of Le Beaucet and La Roque-sur-Pernes, built entirely of stone, via beautiful paths and trails.

After passing through the beautiful village of Venasque, this route goes through several shaded valleys that are very pleasant in summer. In May, you can pick a few cherries from abandoned trees along the paths.

This circuit on the upper slopes of the Luberon leads to the Forêt des Cèdres, then passes at the foot of the Roque des Bancs before descending through the Vallon de Cavède.

A varied hike from the village of Les Taillades, through the Gorge de Badarel to the Crane de Colombier plateau, then down to Robion via the Vallon de la Brayette – an opportunity for a short detour to the cave of the same name. The return journey is via the Rochers de Baude ledge and the Brèche de Castelas. Please read the description carefully before embarking on this hike. Be careful of (3), (5) and (10), for example.

Superb cliff-side walk. Views of Les Taillades, Robion and Cavaillon.

A fine loop starting from Les Taillades. You will walk through varied scenery such as the Source of the Boulon, the cliffs of the Petit Luberon, the Rochers de Baude cliff and the Badarel Gorge, the Carpentras Canal and the old village. This walk is not recommended for people suffering from vertigo. See the “Useful information” section.

Hike on the famous Baude rocks, climbing up the winding and charming Colombier valley. At the end, you can visit the old village of Taillades. All in all, a multifaceted hike.

A short family walk that allows you to discover Saint-Didier and its countryside by following the various oratories that dot the village.

This walk, mainly under the oak trees of the Luberon, will allow you to discover the numerous stone walls that line the route, a sign of past occupation. You will see an old shell-shaped bridge, the Philippe tower (named after a utopian), a Gallic village, and of course the Grand Luberon with the Mourre Nègre, the Combe de Lourmarin, the Ventoux, the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, and the view of Bonnieux with its two churches.

Climb up the Colombier valley to reach a place called "Les Aires de Bedoin" and descend via the forest track with magnificent views of the Durance valley.
