Champagne-Ardenne walks

From the river port, climb the Ardennes ridges overlooking Monthermé and Bogny-sur-Meuse. Pass by the viewpoints of La Roche à Sept Heures, La Roche Bayard, Les Quatre Frères Aymon and La Roche aux Sept Villages. _++_Warning_++_: Very important in case of rain or frost, the passage between points (7) and (8) may be difficult for novices Follow the alternative route signposted from the station at point (7) to reach the Quatre Fils Aymon.

A varied route, mapped out by the Marne Tourist Board, takes you through a forest, sand pits, vineyards, fields and two villages. From a balcony offering views of the Vesle valley, you will pass the forts of Saint-Thierry and Chenay. These were built after the 1870 war to protect Reims. This is a short hike through vineyards offering magnificent views of the Marne Valley. The return journey is along a pleasant path that runs alongside the river.

Located in the Verzy national forest, the Faux de Verzy are well worth a visit! The twisted beech trees and a hollow oak tree will capture your attention. During your hike, you will feel as if you have stepped into the Forest of Brocéliande.

This is a short hike with lots to discover: the Abbaye du Reclus, the Château de Belin and the Reclus dolmen. You will hike through woods and pastures where cows graze. There are no particular difficulties, but avoid this hike in wet weather.

Walk around the Landres and Grand Coulon ponds, where there are many birds to observe.

Between vineyards and woods: you will walk around Trigny, a village in the "Petite Montagne de Reims". This route also offers sweeping views of the Vesle valley. To the south, you can see Coulommes-la-Montagne. To the south-east: Reims and even Verzenay! (description updated on 7 July 2019)

From the port of Giffaumont, follow the lake shore through the forest, looping around the Étang Chevalier and the Queue du Der, then return via Braucourt Beach and the south basin dyke.

Hike from the heights of Montgueux on the ridges overlooking Mesnil Vallon, crossing Macey and its national forest, then returning along the vineyards overlooking La Grange au Rez with a bird's eye view of Troyes.

The Chartreuse du Mont-Dieu was built in a vast 24-hectare clearing in the middle of a huge 1,123-hectare forest, whose springs feed the numerous ponds. We invite you to explore this wooded, hilly region, as well as the park and the rear of the charterhouse.

This hike begins in the Champagne hills and gradually descends into the heart of the Montagne de Reims forest via some very pleasant trails. The end of the route descends from the forest plateau to finish on the old CBR (Chemin de la Banlieue Rémoise) with a lovely view of the village of Verzenay and its hillsides.

This is a lovely, easy walk that takes you around the woods of Épernay, which are private and closed to walkers.This circuit passes through the Champagne vineyards and woods, offering magnificent views of the Marne and Cubry valleys.

This hike offers a variety of routes, allowing you to visit Roc la Tour and perhaps even meet the Ladies of Semoy. Changes to the route between (9) and (11) made on 27/7/2025 due to the closure of the Naux footbridge.

Warning dated 11 August 2025 following recent reports: fenced plantations, newly created paths and obsolete references are making it very difficult to follow this route. I will revisit it in its entirety in September. bozierbruno Close to Belgium, this is an exclusively forest route which, especially in its first part, takes in little-visited natural areas. The modest streams have carved out a surprising landscape.La Roche au Sel, Le Gros Chêne, and L'Étang la Motte are worth a quick stop in the second part of the route.

A forest trail starting from a small village in the Semoy Valley. La Roche au Pihü, Les Dames de Semoy and the Robessart viewpoint offer magnificent views of the valley's relief.

This hike will take you to the border valley of the Ruisseau du Bois Jean, which was once a hotspot for encounters, fraud and smuggling. The Baraque Laurent, the only one still standing, has now been converted into a lodge for groups. The other three huts have disappeared, but their ruins are still visible.

Coming soon (end of June - beginning of July). After setting off near the new school in Les Mesneux, discover the solar system and its planets - on a human scale - as you walk along the paths around the village, through fields and vineyards.

Set off on a loop in the heart of the vast Corgebin State Forest, a stone's throw from Chaumont. Covering an area of 1,100 hectares, this forest became state property in 1789. Located in Haute-Marne, it is the closest state forest to the town of Chaumont, the department's prefecture. It is managed by the ONF (French National Forestry Office) for the sustainable production of quality wood, environmental protection and public access, while also allowing hunting in winter. It is very popular with the public, who come here to enjoy the peace and quiet and get in touch with nature on the outskirts of the town. It is a limestone plateau forest, consisting of beech-based deciduous stands. The landscapes are varied, ranging from coppice with standards to high forest. A nature trail starting at the Muguet visitor centre allows visitors to familiarise themselves with the main species present.

A beautiful summer walk along the canal, then discover the pretty village of Curel and climb through the forest to reach Chevillon. Beautiful views of the Marne Valley and the Châtonrupt Viaduct (in good weather).

This loop runs through the Ardre valley, with the first part through woodland and the second part along field paths. The first part from Fismes to Saint-Gilles follows the old Reims Suburban Railway (CBR) line, which served many towns. The second part runs along the ridge of the road from Fismes to Fère-en-Tardenois, where, when conditions allow, many paragliders take flight.

A beautiful walk around Thilleux, Rozières and Sommevoire with a lovely view from the heights above Rozières. Please note: you will pass through the courtyard of Moulin des Prés; permission must be requested from the owner.

A very pretty walk through the forest and then along the canal, with a slightly steep climb at the beginning but which quickly becomes easier with the descent towards Sommeville. Picturesque spot: the passage under the railway line, then over the river on a metal footbridge.

A lovely, varied walk that follows an old railway line and farm tracks through flat countryside and forest, passing through two small villages. Depending on the season, you may be lucky enough to find wild walnuts along the old railway line.

A walk through the Dervois bocage takes you from one observatory to another, where you can observe many species of water birds.

Two-part hike: a beautiful forest loop ending at the animal park enclosures (fallow deer and wild boar), followed by a visit to the charming village of Auberive, with a tour of the former Cistercian abbey and a review of its rich history from its foundation in 1135 to its current status as a museum and exhibition venue.

The walk is mainly through woodland, but with a few passages through farmland or pastures to vary the landscape. It visits four pleasant villages with churches and refreshing fountains, as well as several picnic areas. It offers views of Lac de la Mouche and winds its way along the foot of cliffs, some of which are jagged, such as along the "ecological trail" (from (15) to (16)).If you find the walk a little long, you can shorten it to about 15 km by cutting from (8) to (17).

Set off to discover the farms and châteaux of the Hermonville plateau on this circuit that will take you through the Saint-Joseph farm, the Luthernay farm, the Château de Vaux-Varennes and the Château de Châlons le Vergeur, along paths and through forests.

A short, easy walk with views of Andelot, Montéclair and the Fouillot hill that hides Rimaucourt. You can also see the Moulin district and its very old Tréfilerie factory.

This route allows you to explore the village of Auberive and its abbey (open to visitors; check opening times and days). Most of the route is through forest and offers views of the tufa formations (information panel on site).

As part of the art event "Ma dernière chemise" (My Last Shirt) created by Sam Peeters (a resident of Omont), you are invited to walk or cycle from the Omont wash house to the La Horgne wash house. The wash houses will host a temporary exhibition of works of art. These country lanes in the heart of the Crêtes Préardennaises will give you a beautiful glimpse of the region, its forests, its hedgerows and its villages. Please note: this online hike requires two vehicles if you do not want to walk back (18 km round trip).

Between land and rivers, explore the 2 Vallées in the heart of the chalky Champagne region. This countryside walk will take you to Pouan-les-Vallées and Villette-sur-Aube, villages close to the town of Arcis-sur-Aube.You will appreciate the shades of ochre, brown and yellow of the cultivated land and the greens of the wooded and shady valleys.

This circuit cleverly combines the three walks around Chateauvillain: the Castle Park (which includes the Deer Park), the Belle Balade and its original sculptures carved into the forest, and a visit to the town of Chateauvillain, notably the Fortifications Trail. A rich and varied walk with no difficulties.
