On leaving Laines aux Bois, when you reach the hamlet of Les Grandes Vallées, do not try to park in the village, as this is not permitted.
Park on the downhill section of the road, just after the intersection with the Maquis de Montaigu monument.
(S/E) Walk back up to the monument, then take the Les Prêtres path which climbs towards Haut de Monterrois. Continue straight ahead down the fairly steep slope to Les Petites Vallées. Enjoy the panoramic view of the wooded hill of Montaigu and the Champagne plain, Laines-aux-Bois, Souligny and Troyes.
(1) At Les Petites Vallées, follow the path without changing direction. Continue along the hillside to stay at the same level. Walk along the edge of the forest, skirting the Montaigu site. Then turn right, pass through the La Charlotte car park to reach the Fontaine de Montaigu picnic area.
(2) Walk all the way around the Fontaine de Montaigu site. Then take the path towards the Oppidum (west), site of the Château de Montaigu.
(3) At the intersection, turn right onto the path and then take the footbridges to easily cross the two ditches. Walk around the Oppidum site via the path on the left. Stop at the observatory overlooking the Champagne plain.
(4) Descend via the path on the left (to the left of the second observatory) which passes under the lower moat and leads back to the intersection.
(3) Just before the intersection, take a detour to enjoy the view of the Val de Gloire. At the intersection, take the path on the right that descends to the Val de Gloire. Continue to the fountain.
(5) Turn right twice to climb (north) the Val de Gloire path along a stream. Continue straight ahead in this valley, which gradually widens.
(6) Cross the hamlet of Les Grandes Vallées to reach the car park at the exit, on the Laines-aux-Bois road (S/E).
