Description of the walk

__Markings: Yellow
Starting point: Temple Forest car park
Unpaved paths: 86.1%

(S/E) From the Temple State Forest car park, turn left onto the forest road towards the roundabout. After 50 metres, take the path on the right before the barrier to follow the Sentier de la Salamandre in the opposite direction to the markings.

(1) Cross the footbridge and turn immediately left. Cross the white path to stay on a small dirt track.

(2) After the pond, take the tarmac forest road to the right. As you pass, take a look to your left at the old dyke built by the Knights Templar (200m round trip).

(3) Leave the forest road to the right and follow the wide grassy path diagonally, continuing straight ahead.

(4) At the crossroads, turn left and then fairly quickly to the right. Atthe second pathon the left, enter under the foliage. Find the forest road on the left and after 100 metres take thefirst path on the right.

(5) Take the white path to the left and continue straight ahead on this gravel forest road.

(6) Go straight ahead along the dyke separating the reservoir called "La Fontaine aux Oiseaux" on the left and Lac du Temple on the right (beautiful view of both lakes).

(7) 100 metres after the dyke, a small 20-metre detour to the right reveals a curious monument: a World WarII shell stuck in a tree. Then return to the main path and follow it back to the starting point (S/E).

A very pleasant walk, mainly through woods and along one of the arms of Lake Orient. There are information boards explaining the life of peasants in the time of the Knights Templar. Very interesting.
Be careful between points 1 and 2, as you cross a white road but the trail is not directly opposite, it is slightly to the left, marked with a yellow rectangle.
(We made a mistake by taking the white path on the right, which took us in exactly the opposite direction). Without a mobile network, it wasn't easy to find our way as all the forest roads look the same!
Otherwise, the description on the information sheet is very well done. Thank you to the author of the sheet!

A peaceful, well-marked route in the heart of the forest. The path is very clean, except after a downpour. Highly recommended.
