Start at the war memorial on Rue de Marzelle at the entrance to Trigny coming from Reims.
(S/E) Continue north to the intersection and turn right onto the D75 for about 100 metres. Towards Chenay, at the foot of the sign for the village, immediately turn left onto a road that leads to the vineyards. Leave the two roads on your left and right.
(1) A yellow sign (*) will then direct you to take a stony path on your right that descends into the woods (ash, maple, aspen, hazel, hornbeam, elderberry trees, etc.). Cross the woods and continue alongside the fields to quickly reach the vineyards. (*) Follow this sign in the opposite direction.
(2) On the roads through the vineyards, the yellow markings invite you to zig left and zag right to go around a copse (mainly aspen trees). Then, a large curve in an anti-clockwise direction takes you up towards a wood (oaks, ash trees, hornbeams, hazel trees, aspens, maples, etc.). Go through it. Come out in the middle of the vineyards and enjoy the panoramic view of the Vesle valley on your left.
(3) At an intersection, a stony path leads you back up into the forest. Continue to the top, keeping to the right. The path becomes grassy, then paved with limestone (the bedrock) and runs alongside beech, lime, ash and privet trees, a few Scots pines, etc. Always follow the yellow markings on the reverse side.
(4) At the crossroads, take the path on the far left, alongside a wire fence. The forest becomes denser with Scots pines, lime trees, laburnums, whitebeam and hazel trees.
(5) After enjoying the coolness of the undergrowth, cross the D530. Continue straight ahead and take the tarmac road. It is slightly sunken, below the fields. Climb slowly towards the top of the hill (215 m). After walking alongside trees on your left, you will find yourself in an open field heading towards red and white pylons and antennas. You will pass walnut trees and then a lighthouse-shaped building, also topped with an antenna. Enjoy the panoramic view on your left over the Vesle valley, the northern flank of the Montagne de Reims and the coronation city! An alternative route offers you the option of completing a loop by following the short hiking trail.
(6) At the Bel Air farm, recognisable by its slit windows, take a very narrow path on your left that leads directly down to Trigny. During rainy or snowy winters, walking sticks are recommended on this fairly steep and very slippery path!
When you reach the vineyards, there is a grassy area on your right that is ideal for a picnic.
When you reach the edge of the village, turn right along the cemetery, onto the Chemin de la Croix Saint-Souliée.
You can then continue this route or return to the starting point through the village streets.
(7) At the next intersection, turn right, pass the cross, take the vineyard roads on the left, then turn right.
(8) At the intersection, turn left, with your back to the red and white antenna, and go down the concrete road. Keep the large wine cooperative in sight. When you reach the intersection with Grande Rue Saint Nicolas, turn left.
(9) Pass the wine cooperative, head back up towards the church, then take Petite Rue de la Couture on the right. Go around a large property on the left, head north up Rue de la Louvière and past the war memorial to the car park where you started (S/E).
