Starting point: Arboretum du Bois de la Vierge, accessible from Vendresse via a road suitable for vehicles (1.5 km)
(S/E) Take the arboretum path and follow the signs (white arrows). After two paths, you will reach the Ligne aux Sapins (east-west direction) at the north-east corner of forest plot no. 15.
(1) Take this magnificent avenue on the right to its eastern end.
(2) Continue in the same direction until you reach a crossroads with six paths.
(3) Take the second path on the left (the one that climbs the most) and reach the boundary between the municipalities of Omicourt and Vendresse, marked by a ditch.
(4) Turn left and follow this boundary. At the next crossroads, turn right up a private road that branches off to the left towards Mont Joly.
(5) Do not take the path on the left, but continue north-east on a wide stone path that leads to Omicourt.
(6) Turn onto Rue du Chaud and immediately turn left onto Rue des Chayères, then take a small path heading north to join a forest road.
(7) Turn left onto the forest road to reach a crossroads on the ridge between the Bar and Rouge Cogneux valleys.
(8) Take the middle path, which descends towards the Hannognes path in Saint-Aignan.
(9) Take the leftmost path to climb up the Rouge Cogneux valley to its source.
(10) Continue in the same direction until you reach the boundary between the two parishes, which you have already crossed.
(11) Follow the boundary between the two municipalities on the left, which runs alongside a private plot of land, until you reach the edge of the Vendresse National Forest.
(12) Turn right before forest plot No. 1 until you reach the first path on the left, which marks the boundary between plots No. 1 and No. 2.
(13) Follow this plot boundary. It soon joins a more clearly marked path. Turn left to join the Route Forestière de la Vierge.
(14) Stay on this road until you reach the line of fir trees. Turn right, then left to finish at the end of the arboretum route (S/E).
A superb hike with several varieties of fir trees. I did it on my own and enjoyed the incredible peace and quiet.
