Saint-Pons walks
Refuge de la Pare, Soleil Bœuf and Crête des Cognetons
Hike starting from La Frache, a hamlet above Saint-Pons and Barcelonnette. This is a very pretty hike with beautiful views, but it is not recommended in bad weather.Moderator's rating: difficult, between (9) and (10), see reviews
Riou Bourdoux Horizontal Path
A ridge walk with breathtaking views of the Grande Séolane and Chapeau de Gendarme massifs. A lovely reward after the effort.
From Pra Loup 1600 via Coste Belle to La Dalle en Pente
A good walk to work up an appetite! Set off from Pra Loup to the La Dalle en Pente restaurant and return via the Chappe chairlift.
Faucon-de-Barcelonnette - Bouzoulières
A walk in the hills above Faucon-de-Barcelonnette offering views of the valley’s peaks: Grande Séolane, Chapeau de Gendarme, Croix de l’Alpe...
The walk is mainly along a small tarmac road. A footpath allows you to shorten the road sections. We walked after snowfall and chose to be cautious, i.e. we took the road. The snow made the landscape even more beautiful.
Le Chapeau de Gendarme via the Col de Fours and Col du Gyp passes
A lovely circular alpine hike starting from the Super-Sauze ski resort, with an ascent of the Chapeau de Gendarme.
The Croix de L'Alpe from La Rente
A round trip to this promontory offers a unique view of the entire Ubaye Valley, from the bell tower of Méolans-Revel to the Pas de la Reyssole.
Please note: at (5), the markings become difficult to read and the passage itself is technical.
The bread oven at Rioclar
This is a short walk, the main purpose of which is to admire the surrounding mountains, including the Tête de Louis XVI. The village's municipal bread oven, still used by the villagers, bears witness to a time when Rioclar was isolated from the valley.
Passours and Roméyère circular loop
An easy route around the Torrent des Arnauds with breathtaking views.
On the heights of Jausiers
This hike offers beautiful views of Jausiers and the iconic peaks of the Ubaye Valley (Chapeau de Gendarme, Massif des Séolanes).
This hike is not particularly difficult, despite a few steep ascents and descents and some exposed sections. (see practical information section)
Much of the hike takes place in the forest. You will also cross former agricultural areas. You will pass in front of the Château des Magnans, an architectural curiosity in Jausiers.
Beware of rockfalls and a tricky passage between (4) and (:5). Read the reviews for an alternative route.
La Fresquière - Rioclar
A lovely, easy walk along the Ubaye with views of the surrounding mountains.
Rochegrand at the start of the Col d'Allos
Climb to the summit of Rochegrand, with magnificent views of the Allos valley and the surrounding peaks.
Chapelle Saint-Anne la Condamine
Discover the Parpaillon valley and the Chapelle Saint-Anne la Condamine chapel.
Vallon Julien and waterfalls
This beautiful alpine walk will take you through a beautiful, uncrowded valley, along a path that is sometimes steep. Cliffs, torrents, waterfalls, and perhaps the chance to see a mountain goat.
Lac Sainte-Marguerite and Source de Jérusalem
A very pleasant circular above Les Orres resort, allowing you to discover a beautiful lake, Sainte-Marguerite, and the springs that feed Les Orres, named Jerusalem.
The dairy farms of La Condamine-Châtelard
A lovely walk above La Condamine-Châtelard.
It’s fairly easy and offers a wide variety of scenery, both in the immediate surroundings and as you discover the wider area as you gain height and view it from different angles.
The vegetation varies considerably depending on the section, and for a walk of around 4–4½ hours, this is a real bonus;
The Belvédère and Lake Sainte-Marguerite
The first section follows the “Plein les yeux” route through a larch forest to reach a viewpoint offering views of the Tête de la Mazelière with its ice falls. Then, via an ascent along a wide forest track, reach the wild Eyssalette valley where, beneath the ice, lies the Lac de Sainte-Marguerite, surrounded by numerous peaks.
The Col du Pouzenc
If you are in the Serre Ponçon area, this hike is well worth the climb. You will walk through a very quiet valley that is rarely visited, even in the height of summer, inhabited only by marmots and a few chamois, and hundreds of alpine flowers of all kinds in July!
There is an impressive view of Serre-Ponçon once you reach the pass.
Jerusalem Spring
This is a short hike, but it can be challenging in places, especially towards the end. Come on, let's go; enjoy the walk...
A beautiful waterfall to cool off in summer.
Cime de la Plate and Lacs de la Braissette
A beautiful hike in a wild environment, with no technical difficulties despite 50% of the route being off-trail. Orientation is not a problem either, despite the few cairns along the route; just follow the contours of the terrain and the streams at the edge of the meadows. The Visorando app may be useful.
