The start is at the car park of Les Orres 1800, not to be confused with Les Orres 1650, which is the historic resort.
(S/E) From the car park, walk through the resort and follow the road you arrived on.
(1) Turn left to walk past the “La Combe d’Or” building to reach the edge of the slopes (do not take the steep climb behind it, which is reserved for snow groomers).
(2) Pass the wooden totem (return route) to go round the concrete shelter and turn right to follow a red run (Grand' Cabane), keeping well to the edge.
(3) Hard to spot, but after a sort of large cylindrical concrete tank, a path enters the larch forest on the right. Follow it downwards. The markings consist of fluorescent orange circles on the trees and purple posts.
(4) A wooden viewing platform has been built with an information board. Retrace your steps and continue downhill, veering to the left. Join a wide forest track.
(5) Take a sharp left-hand bend to head due south along a gently ascending path.
(6) Turn left, following the tracks of the ski tourers climbing steeply up the slope.
(7) At the Jerusalem Springs junction, take the hairpin bend to the left. The path climbs, following the curve of the mountain, and leads out into the Eyssalette valley.
(8) Continue straight on, leaving the Lac hut on your right (a good spot for a break). Head down to the lake’s shores.
(9) To return, follow the same route as on the way out. Shortcuts are possible on snowshoes to descend the steep slope (see the route map).
(5) Continue straight on to the Gautier sheepfold.
(10) Do not stay on the main forest track, which continues to descend slightly, but turn right to head back up towards the resort.
(11) Climb more steeply to the right (discovery sign) to return to the resort at the totem.
(2) Follow the same route as on the way out to return to the car park (S/E).
