Lake Villefort on the Altier side
A challenging hike along the steepest section of Lake Villefort.
Chemin des Vignes in Génolhac
A circular loop without difficulty, with panoramic views to enjoy with the family. The Chemin des Vignes follows an old route that was once used for terraced farming and then for exploiting the pine forest to support the mining galleries. The vines disappeared in the 1960s.

An easy walk that allows you to discover the isolated hamlets typical of this region of the Cévennes, as well as its vast chestnut groves.

Short circular loop starting from Aujac
A short route, suitable for families, on decent paths with good signposting. A lovely apiary at Les Bouchets and superb views of the Monts de la Lozère. It’s (relatively) cool in the morning. You can enhance the walk with a meal at the little restaurant opposite the church (closed on Wednesdays).

A stone's throw from the Gorges du Chassezac, this is an interesting short hike with the option of swimming at the end.

A very pretty walk, through trees at the bottom and broom at the top. Allow a good half day to a full day to complete the circuit. I recommend this walk to experienced walkers who are used to walking in the mountains.
Serre de Barre - Croix de Bancillon - Alauzas
A moderately challenging walk leading to the highest peak of the Serre de Barre, where a watchtower is manned during the summer months for fire surveillance.
From the summit, you can enjoy a beautiful view over the plain and the Ardèche mountains.
The Pic Cassini from the Mas de la Barque
Here too, in the Lozère region, a 360° summit bears the cartographer Cassini's famous name. Did he ever see, this cartographer, the map of this corner of Lozère? Perhaps not. On the other hand, this summit, which is easy to get to, offers a remarkable view, which can then be completed by a loop via the source of the Tarn river.

Submersible bridges and Serre du Cocu
A circular with varied landscapes that uses the beautiful paths created and maintained by the municipality of Gravières. This route is impossible in heavy rain as the Chassezac river can cover La Pontière.
On 29 May 2024, there was quite a lot of water at La Pontière, but it was still possible to cross (I preferred to take my shoes off anyway). The weather forecast is looking better, so conditions should improve.
Belvédère and balconies of the Chassezac
A short, very easy hike that can be done with the family. The first 500 m section follows the Chassezac viewpoint route with magnificent views of the gorges and the Roure plateau opposite. On a clear day, you can see Mont Ventoux. The second part follows part of the greenway, created on the abandoned route of the old RN106. On the way back, it passes through fields and hamlets to return to the starting point, with beautiful views of the village of La Garde Guérin, which is well worth a visit.

A short walk for a winter’s afternoon in the land of Jean-Pierre Chabrol. You pass under the magnificent Luech viaduct before climbing gently for a circular route through the Cévennes forests and returning to Chamborigaud.

The return journey is via another forest path that runs alongside a river and takes you over a pretty bridge. Please note that some sections are not cleared of undergrowth, so watch out for ticks, snakes, etc. Take a stick with you to defend yourself if necessary, but avoid interacting with them as much as possible. In addition, you will pass through some areas where herds of cows graze, so avoid interacting with them as well.
Ventalon ridge via Soleyrols
An easy walk consisting of a series of ascents and descents. The landscape is varied, with numerous stretches through chestnut groves, a few streams crossed twice via footbridges in excellent condition, and some beautiful views, particularly from the Ventalon ridge, not to mention some lovely hamlets restored in the typical Cévennes style.

This hike takes you to the village of Thines and the Church of Notre-Dame, undoubtedly a jewel of Romanesque art in the heart of the Cévennes mountains. All along this trail, the view of the village and the wild mountains surrounding it is magnificent!
