Voreppe walks

This low-altitude loop takes you up an old passage equipped with ladders by hunters, before crossing the formidable Roize and returning via Chalais and its monastery.

A family-friendly circuit starting from Chalais Monastery and ending at the eponymous Aiguille.

This is a loop south of the Chartreuse, at a modest altitude. It starts at Chalais Monastery, climbs up the cable-assisted passageway of the chimney, then heads towards the small village of Mont-Saint-Martin and returns via the Cuchet route. Traditional yellow directional signs indicate the distance to be covered and the time needed to reach the destinations concerned.

A fun hike bordering on mountaineering on a very little-used route leading to the Rocher de Chalves via its southern ridge. You will discover the Ouillon, a monolith clearly visible at the foot of the ridge, before climbing an easy rock face (never exceeding 3c) along the ridge. Caution: there is a sheer drop below the ridge, so you must proceed slowly and test each hold carefully, as some boulders are ready to tumble down.

A beautiful loop around the Grand Ratz, passing by the Roche Brune viewpoint with its breathtaking view of the Isère valley.

La descente par le Pas des Rochers de Pierre Taillée s'effectuant sur une sente en déshérence puis dans la forêt pour retrouver le parking conviendra aux randonneurs en quête de lieu secret. This low peak and its twin opposite on the Vercors side, the Dent de Moirans, watch over the exit of the Isère as it flows quietly towards the Rhône and the entrance of rain and snow clouds pushed by the north winds. A remarkable viewpoint over the valleys, it is an ideal half-day walk.

A pleasant circular through the woods of the commune of Proveyzieux leading to the Belvédère du Sialet, which offers a bird's-eye view of the Isère valley. Hikers will be happy to discover the large shopping area of Saint-Égrève, where many of them stock up on supplies.

Ascent of the Aiguille de Quaix from the hamlet of La Jars in Quaix en Chartreuse: a fairly shaded forest route offering magnificent views of the Isère valley from the Aiguille de Quaix. The ascent of the Aiguille de Quaix requires a climb that can be difficult with heavy boots or for people who are prone to vertigo. However, the view at the foot of the peak, without climbing, is still worth the effort. The hike remains very interesting.

This trail is an invitation to walk through medieval, rural and geological history and enjoy the natural beauty of an Isère valley deeply rooted between the alluvial plain and the cliffs of the Vercors. A great getaway for the curious, families, hikers and heritage enthusiasts!

This is a pleasant, safe hike, 80% of which is in the shade, offering numerous viewpoints, particularly at La Sure (view of the Grenoble-Voiron valley) and at the summit of La Buffe (360° view), as well as at various points along the way. An unmissable walk near Grenoble. Despite the crowds during these last beautiful days of autumn, we were able to avoid the rush (except on the climb to the summit).

This pretty circular starting from the Col de la Charmette allows you to climb the Charmant Som via a fairly uncrowded route (but you won't avoid the crowds at the summit...). The final climb up a chimney requires caution, but does not present any particular difficulties.

Magnificent view of the Chartreuse and the plain from the summit of the Grande Sure. The first part, from the car park to the summit of the Grande Sure, is the most difficult with scree. The descent from the summit to the Col de la Vache must be undertaken with caution. The rest is easier. The return after the Col d'Hurtières is through the woods.

A fairly easy route to reach this summit in the Chartreuse mountains. However, the final ascent requires a bit of energy. At Col de la Sure, you can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the mountain pastures.

A magnificent, easy walk suitable for young walkers. Magnificent views and an area where you are likely to encounter mouflons and chamois! The passage through the Goulet d'Hurtières is pleasant and less frequented than the other paths leading to the Grande Sure.

An easy hike to discover the statue towering above Voiron. A real treat, especially in snowy weather. The statue of the Virgin Mary was erected in honour of the Iron Virgin of Le Puy-en-Velay. Legend has it that Bonnassieux committed suicide after sculpting the Virgin. However, he did not commit suicide and died with honours. He deliberately placed Jesus in her right arm so that he would not hide his mother's face as she blesses the town

From the village of Montaud, and more precisely from the hamlet of Le Coing, there is an interesting loop via the Fessole farm followed by a path along the edge of the Vercors cliffs.

A well-known local walk, presenting no difficulty. It takes you to the heights of Sassenage, as well as some pleasant neighbourhoods and the village centre. The "Batteries" are a defensive structure from the "iron belt" of the late 19th century: several battery emplacements, now empty of their artillery pieces. Find out about their former function.

A pleasant walk along the Ri d'Olon stream and then through walnut plantations. The first part of the route is through the woods and the second part is in the shade of walnut trees. This walk is suitable for young children and even pushchairs.

La Pinéa via the ridge that connects it to Charmant Som. On a clear day, there is a beautiful view of the Grande Sure, Charmant Som, Chamechaude and Mont-Aiguille.

In summer, there is a very easy walk with magnificent views of the Grande Chartreuse, Mont Blanc and many other peaks. Dogs are not allowed at Charmant Som, even on a leash, from 10 June to 15 October.

A very easy loop through this peaceful woodland. The chestnut wood is home to several protected bird species. This walk is best enjoyed in spring or on the last beautiful days of autumn.

Mount Rachais, from the hamlet of Frette, situated on its far northern side.

Walk through the Furon Gorges leading to the top of the village, where restaurants once welcomed Grenoble residents seeking coolness on Sundays. This short walk is very popular in hot weather, as the Furon area remains cool.

Another way to reach the summit of the Grande Sure. Most hikers from the Grenoble area access it via Proveysieux and the Col de la Charmette. For those coming from the Savoyard hinterland, access via Saint-Laurent-du-Pont and the Chartreuse de Curière is an interesting alternative. From the start at (5), the route is not very busy.

A nice circular walk from the parking place at the Geve Plateau. There is a diversion to La Glaciere, which is a cave system, and a shorter diversion to Cabane 44, which was used by the resistance during WWII. The views from the ridge are great.

A wild hike starting from the Gève plateau in the magnificent Vercors forest. The route along the northern ridge of the Vercors offers breathtaking views of the Isère valley, the Grenoble conurbation, the Voiron area and the Chartreuse mountains.

A short hike around the Guiers Mort, a pretty little stream. The walk is mainly through the undergrowth at the bottom of the gorges along the Guiers, in search of coolness, with several opportunities to take a dip. - User report on 24 August 2023: The trail is currently closed for works from 14 August to 30 November 2023 (the "blasting" sign is very dissuasive). Access from Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse by car is also closed (long detour via Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont).

A short family walk offering excellent views for the effort. Best done on a day with good visibility. Please note: a hiker has informed us that in summer, at weekends, access to the plateau is restricted: you must take a shuttle bus (or a chairlift, which is quite far away).

In Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, there is a 6 km flat walk along a wetland discovery trail.

A path leading to the Bastille de Grenoble was built in 2025. From the houses of Saint-Martin-Le-Vinoux, you can quickly reach the woods, where the route winds between oak trees and small scree slopes. The work has made the path easier and more user-friendly, but the climb remains challenging At the Fort, admire the panoramic view of the Belledonne, Vercors and Chartreuse mountain ranges. Descend towards Porte de France and Parc Guy Pape. Important note: this route is not recommended after a day of rain, as the ground is very slippery.

This circular can be done in almost any season (except after storms or heavy rain) and allows you to discover some lesser-known parts of Chartreuse.
