Description of the walk

Departure from the hamlet of Le Bourget.

(S/E) The trail starts at the end of a small street (Chemin du Bourget). The street gives way to a path that climbs towards the north-east. It starts off steeply, running alongside meadows and woods.

(1) At the first intersection, take the path that branches off to the left and runs along the cliff. Turn left to reach the Belvédère des Maquisards viewpoint.

(2) Retrace your steps and take the path on the left marked "Col de Tençon". The path is well marked through the woods and is often lined with a wooden railing. About 200 metres further on, continue climbing to the right.

(3) At the crossroads after passing the ruins, continue along the path that climbs steeply to the left. Follow the path marked with a yellow line and leave a very steep path on the right (yellow cross). Pass Col de Tençon (628m) and follow the track for about a hundred metres.

(4) Take the path on the left, signposted "Bois de Ratz". The slope is steep on a long straight stretch. Descend briefly before climbing steeply through the box trees. Follow a few hairpin bends uphill to reach a wooded plateau. The slope becomes gentler.

(5) At a place called Grands Bois, turn left onto the path towards Roche Brune (the sign indicates 800m). Head south-west then south to the summit.

(6) Return via the same route to reach the hamlet (S/E).

A somewhat challenging hike at the beginning. The views are quite nice at the end, but not spectacular (we are less fond of the views of the town in the valley). Well shaded. There is a lot of road noise during the first third of the walk.

A challenging hike with some fairly steep sections, but very beautiful with magnificent views of the valley throughout the route. Especially at the summit of Rochebrune. To vary the route, on the way down, from point 4 you can turn left towards the Bourget viewpoint to reach point 3. Then turn left again after point 3 to cut through Bourget and return to point 1.

A beautiful, steep route that should only be attempted in dry weather, as the descent via the same route can be quite tricky otherwise. The view from the Rochebrune cross is lovely, with the Chartreuse mountains on one side and the Charmant Som and Pinéa on the other, and the Vercors at the foot of which lies the Isère river! The route runs through the undergrowth, making it an ideal walk in summer. Thank you for this beautiful hike.

A beautiful but fairly strenuous walk due to the steep gradient over a short distance. Good, sturdy footwear is essential (or walking sticks) as the descent is quite tricky, especially towards the end: it's a steep climb on the way up and a steep descent on the way back! The view from the top is magnificent.

The hike takes place entirely in the woods, so there aren't many views along the way, but a quick stop at the lookout point allows you to see the Isère valley below.
However, it's a steep climb right from the start! It was the first time I'd ever used walking poles to help me! I wouldn't recommend doing this hike in rainy or muddy conditions.
