Towards Lalatcha Lake
Head for the summit overlooking Lake Lalatcha.
The summit is nearly 2,900 metres above sea level and overlooks the surrounding area, including the climb up to the Col de Vars from the Ubaye Valley.

The summit of Le Méale
The summit of Le Méale offers a beautiful view of Embrunnais, Parpaillon and Serre-Ponçon. Most of the route is through forest on a beautiful trail. What's more, it can be done from May to mid-November.
Mont Orel
Mont Orel overlooks Embrun. It is reached via the Col de la Coche. A walk along the peaks to the crosses. Magnificent views over the stretch of Lac de Serre-Ponçon, the surrounding valleys and the Écrins in the distance. A gentler descent via the Pra Leydon chapel. A hike that ends with a contemplative stroll through the Saluces Forest. A very quiet hike, apart from a few chamois at the summit.The only slight difficulty is spotting the cairns in the mountain pastures.
The Roche Blanche bridge from Mélezet
An easy hike starting from Mélezet with lovely views of the village and Les Orres resort.
The route follows the old Baratier irrigation canal for about 1.5km.
Col de Vars
A pleasant and easy walk to the Col de Vars, where you are sure to spot marmots.
The Cols de l'Écuelle and Cols de Vars starting from Vars-les-Claux
A beautiful family hike starting from the Vars-les-Claux resort, taking you to the Col de l'Écuelle via the old Combe Froide rock glacier and then the very touristy Col de Vars.
There are many variations on this hike, but I suggest the wildest route possible to avoid the human developments on the mountain.
Pointe de l'Eyssina
A magnificent hike that takes you along a pleasant ridge to a summit with spectacular views. Breathtaking 360° panorama of the Embrunais, Dévoluy, Écrins, Queyras and Ubaye.
The route is on an unmarked trail, so you will need to supplement the description with the Visorando app.
The Belvédère and Lake Sainte-Marguerite
The first section follows the “Plein les yeux” route through a larch forest to reach a viewpoint offering views of the Tête de la Mazelière with its ice falls. Then, via an ascent along a wide forest track, reach the wild Eyssalette valley where, beneath the ice, lies the Lac de Sainte-Marguerite, surrounded by numerous peaks.
The RTM dams on the Torrent des Vachères
A hike that allows you to discover France’s first experimental site run by the ONF’s Mountain Land Restoration Service (RTM). The first dam built to curb erosion caused by the torrent dates back to 1868 and, following its success, this example was replicated throughout France. Along the trail, you’ll find fun, interactive explanations in hidden caches. This is the Sens’Actions Trail. A delight for young and old alike.

A beautiful waterfall to cool off in summer.
The Col du Pouzenc
If you are in the Serre Ponçon area, this hike is well worth the climb. You will walk through a very quiet valley that is rarely visited, even in the height of summer, inhabited only by marmots and a few chamois, and hundreds of alpine flowers of all kinds in July!
There is an impressive view of Serre-Ponçon once you reach the pass.
Lac Sainte-Marguerite and Source de Jérusalem
A very pleasant circular above Les Orres resort, allowing you to discover a beautiful lake, Sainte-Marguerite, and the springs that feed Les Orres, named Jerusalem.
Around the cliffs of the Durance and Lake Siguret
This is an easy, short walk that runs along the cliffs overlooking the Durance with views of the valley on one side and around Lake Siguret on the other.
Belvédère de l'Homme de Pierre
This is a beautiful route with no real difficulties, offering magnificent scenery along most of the way. The 360° view from the Homme de Pierre viewpoint is truly spectacular. The Martinat ridge also offers superb panoramic views.
The rock of Embrun, its ramparts, gardens, canals and the Durance river.
Another way to discover Embrun. Walk on the rock from the viewpoint, then under the rock with its gardens and canals, a short detour to discover the Durance before completing the circular route in Embrun via the cathedral, the Maison des Chanonges, and the Tour Brune.

Col de Serenne and Crête de la Selle from Vars
A long loop passing through two passes and several ridge crossings, traversing mountain pastures. The Couniets and Selle ridges are wild and rarely visited. Magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

This route, which partly follows theGR®50and 653D trails, is a pleasant walk on the outskirts of the Écrins National Park.
Canal and Demoiselles Coiffées at the gateway to the Ecrins
A beautiful hike in the Alps, between forests and rocks, torrents and canals, with some very interesting geological features.
The trail follows an ancient irrigation canal, the Gramorel Canal, which runs sometimes in the open air and sometimes in large conduits of varying ages.
It is possible to continue on to the Pisse waterfall.
L'Auberge des Pinées
A pleasant walk through the Rabioux Valley, offering the chance to discover a unique cluster of fairy chimneys dominated by a lovely waterfall.
Roche Rousse viewpoint
This walk leads to the top of the Roche Rousse cliff and offers a lovely view over Châteauroux and the Durance and Rabioux valleys.

The Lac des Neuf Couleurs below La Mortice
Visit the lake of the same name as the one below Brec du Chambeyron in Ubaye. It is located at the bottom of Val d'Escreins and at the foot of La Mortice.
Oratory and Source of the Font Sancte from the Escreins car park
An unmissable hike that allows you to explore the Val d’Escreins and make your way up to the source of the Rif Bel stream, alternating between its two banks. Along the way, you may come across some remarkable trees that are hundreds of years old.
The Crêtes de Vars via the Val d'Escreins
A beautiful classic hike that starts from Val d'Escreins (nature reserve) and climbs up to the ridges overlooking the Vars Valley, then descends further down via another pass.
Pic d’Escreins from the Val d’Escreins
The Pic d'Escreins is a peak at an altitude of 2,700 m, situated between two slopes.
It takes you from the Val d'Escreins Nature Reserve to the Queyras Massif.
This route starts from the Val d’Escreins, which is 6 km from the Pic d'Escreins, with a total ascent of 1,200 m.
The ascent is steady throughout, with sections featuring steps and cables between points (3) and (4), where you must remain vigilant but which present no major technical difficulty.
