The hike starts from the car park on the right as you leave Vars-les-Claux, heading up towards the pass.
(S/E) Take the path that starts between the toboggan run and the golf driving range, turning left towards the Col de Vars and the Refuge Napoléon. The path is well marked in yellow and purple.
A few dozen metres before you reach the Refuge Napoléon, which you can see on the left of the road below, the path forks.
(1) Take the right-hand fork, which climbs uphill. When you reach the altiport, turn right of the building, then continue on a path below the road that climbs up to Col de Vars, passing close to some picnic tables.
(2) Ignore the access road on the left and continue along the path, going around the buildings on the right.
(3) At the pass, cross the D902 road, follow it for a few metres to the right and take the path that climbs to the left of the shop. This path is no longer marked but is well marked. It goes around the promontory and joins a path after a few hundred metres.
(4). Take the path to the right, which will take you back to the pass.
(3) Cross the road again, go up it on the right and take the path that climbs towards Pointe de l'Eyssina. When you reach a fork (5), ignore the path on the left that climbs up towards Vars via Combe Froide (this route is a slightly longer alternative) and take the path on the right that leads through the mountain pastures to another fork.
(6) Turn left, leaving "Vars par les Myrtilles" on your right.
At the next fork (7), the path on the left comes from Combe Froide. Descend opposite, then follow the path that climbs to the left and quickly veers to the right. The path passes under a chairlift, crosses a ridge and then descends in bends to the start of a ski lift, which you go around on the right. The path climbs slightly to the left, then veers to the right and passes under a bridge (under the ski lifts).
At the end of the bridge (8), take the path on the right which climbs slightly then descends after a few dozen metres and then turns right before the cable car (9). Follow it until you reach a bridge (under a ski slope) which you pass under (10).
Continue straight ahead on the path until you reach the buildings of Vars-les-Claux.
Cross the car park and turn right before a building (small tower) onto a path that takes you straight back to the car park where you started.
