Description of the walk

Park in the car park by the church in Châteauroux-les-Alpes.

(S/E) Follow the road to theGR® junction (signposted).

(1) Then turn right onto theGR®50, which leads to the houses in the upper part of Châteauroux. TheGR® alternates between path and road, but the signposting makes it easy to find the path.

(2) Take it straight ahead, enter the woods, and head towards the Auberge des Pinées.

(3) Continue south-west then south, reaching the junction with the path to the Cascade de la Pisse. Leave this path on your right and continue straight ahead on the wide track. After about 500m, turn left and, heading south-west then south, reach the highest point.

(4) Begin the descent.
You’ll come to a series of hairpin bends; stay on the main track (follow the signposts). You’ll then reach the junction of the twoGR® trails.

(5) Turn left (signposted) onto theGR®653D, which joins a road at the hamlet of Les Rozans. Stay on this road to reach the Saint-Roch chapel.

(6) Continue along the road to reach the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

The Pisse waterfall in the Rabioux valley is well worth a visit; to shorten the walk, you can park at the inn’s car park for a return trip.
The Embrun lake and, of course, the town of Embrun are well worth a long stop.

A lovely walk with such varied scenery – I’m completely blown away. It’s true that I completed the route in three and a half hours, including a lunch break, but it’s lovely to stroll along whilst taking in the views. I only came across one other person, and to top it off, a lovely dog followed me the whole way. A real treat.

A lovely walk. We had a bit of trouble following the directions after the inn, but we managed to find our way without too much difficulty.

A picturesque walk through the hamlets, though there’s quite a bit of tarmac. Lovely rural views over the Durance valley during the second half of the route. There are other walks in the area that might be even more scenic.
