Departure from Amplier (Pas-de-Calais)
This route partly follows an old marked trail (the Volpin) which seems to have disappeared (there are a few markings near Marieux). It would appear that in the north of the Somme, the lifespan of marked trails is as short as that of hares.
It is of course possible to do only 17 km (by turning left at point 11), but the small northern circular route is very interesting.
There are very few roads and the paths are very good, but sometimes very grassy.
The route will change in May 2024, as the path between the cemetery and the church is currently blocked.

A long hike in the north of the Somme. Most of the paths are in good condition (even in late winter) and there are occasional tarmac sections, but no traffic.
A lovely variety of landscapes! I find the Amplier Valley very beautiful and the path between Beauquesne and Beauval is very interesting.

Departure from Barly (Somme) (Somme)
I used the start of an old marked trail (Sentier de la Fontaine) which, like many in this area, has disappeared. The route takes you through the Bois des Bouloies and, after passing through Occoches, the return journey follows wide farm tracks.
You can have a picnic in the square. You can follow this up with the “Les pâtis au départ de Barly” walk for a total of 20 km.

A previously signposted path has been restored. The Fontaines Bleues are very beautiful but have been completely neglected!
It’s a route through unspoilt countryside, taking you through two woods.
Bonus: you can start with the “Le Bois des Bouloies” walk. At point (7), by turning left, you’ll join this route (towards the hamlet of Les Tilleuls: point (3). The total distance should then be around 24 km.

Departure from Lucheux (Somme)
I have tried to revive an old marked trail (and kept its name) which, like many in the area, has completely disappeared (the Somme CDRP seems rather ineffective and, moreover, is unreachable).
It is a route with virtually no roads, but crossing the Forest of Lucheux is very difficult as many of the paths are badly damaged. Fortunately, the GR® markings are clear there.
So, a difficult route, even very difficult after rain: in good condition on 19 April 2026, apart of course from the section through the forest where the ‘path’ is in a terrible state.

Departure from Lucheux (Somme)
A route around Lucheux, largely following the ‘Lucheux and its Forest’ circular route, which starts from Sus-Saint-Léger. As noted in the description of that circular route, it is best to undertake this walk in dry weather, as the sectionof the GR®124in the forest is in very poor condition. However, it is fairly easy to bypass the impassable sections, or even avoid this stretch altogether.

A lovely walk on the borders of Pas-de-Calais and the Somme. You'll discover the pretty Quilienne river (which did a lot of damage in 2016) and the Bois de Saint-Pierre (woods).
It's possible to add one or two extensions, so that the trail can exceed 22km (see practical info).

Departure from Nœux-lès-Auxi (Pas-de-Calais)
This nearly roadless route takes in the wild Ravin des Cavernes and the astonishing moorland of Nœux-lès-Auxi (le Rietz).
Le Rietz de Nœux is a protected nature reserve. In spring, it's home to the most beautiful orchids. Goes without saying, don't pick them!
This circuit takes up a large part of the "Sentier de l'Étoile" (Path of the Star), of which there are a few routes, but no description. What's more, there are very few markings. The gates are near the fence on the right.
Before tackling this route, I advise you to watch the 2 videos linked in Denis' commentary.

This 11.9 km walk (plus an optional 2.2 km circular route) starts in Heilly and ends in Vaux-sur-Somme, where Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, died 100 years ago.
