Noyelle-Vion: in the footsteps of the Gauls

This is a long route on good paths, which means it can be enjoyed in all seasons.
There are a few sections on roads, but apart from the D68 near Avesnes, they are not very busy.
The icing on the cake is the crossing of Avesnes-le-Comte via Les Voyettes.

Description of the walk

Starting point: large car park at the Noyelle-Vion cemetery (Rue du Cimetière).

(S/E) Head towards the village. After 100 metres, in the left-hand bend in the road, leave the road and take the small lane on the right to reach Rue des Avesnes. Follow it to the right. Ignore the turnings on the left and arrive near the farm at a place called Bel Avesnes.

(1) Turn right. Shortly after the farm, the small road turns right. Follow it, continuing straight ahead, until you reach the D339.

(2) Follow it for a few metres on the right, then cross it (carefully) to take Chemin du Gy, see practical information 1.
After about 200 m, take the path on the right to cross the Gy. Follow the path, which eventually turns sharply to the left and joins a small road.

(3) Follow it to the right. After about 50 metres, continue straight ahead on the path to join the D68.

(4) Follow it to the right for about 500 m (take care) and find a small road on the left.

(5) Take this road. Ignore a turn-off on the left and join the D8.

(6) Cross it and take the main road opposite, which climbs slightly. After about 300 metres, you will reach a fork.

(7) Leave the tarmac road and take the path on the right at the edge of the woods (GRP® de l'Artois). After a 90° right turn, you will reach the D80.

(8)Follow iton the left for about 200 metres before taking a good tree-lined path on the right. Ignore a path on the right and then pass under the power line. Immediately after, the path turns left to follow the line and reach a T-junction.

(9) Take the road on the right and reach the D75 (rubbish tip on the left). Leave the GRP® here. Cross the road carefully to take the small road opposite. About a hundred metres further on, take the beautiful wide path on the left. Ignore the path on the left, and further on, turn left to join Rue Corroyer on the right.

(10) Walk along it on the right to reach Rue de Liencourt (D79). Turn right for about a hundred metres, then turn right into Rue Neuve. You will reach the cemetery (very welcoming: bench, trees and beautiful green space. A pleasant place to take a break!). Just after that, you will reach a crossroads.

(11) Turn onto Piésente d'Avesnes opposite and follow it to Avesnes, crossing the wind farm. Cross a road and further on, pass under a high-voltage line and you will reach thefirst houses. You will come to a T-junction.

(12) Take the road on the left to join the D339. Cross it and follow it to the right on the left-hand side of the road. After about 200 metres, pass No. 134 and find a small road on the left.

(13) Follow it for a good hundred metres, then turn right to walk along the housing estate. Continue straight ahead to reach the D8, opposite the church.

(14) Cross it, head towards the church (pedestrian crossing) and climb the steps to go around it on the right, joining Rue Maclou. Follow it on the left, then turn into thefirst street on the right, Rue de la Poussinière. After a few metres, you will find a staircase on the left.

(15) Go up the stairs and follow the path to Rue de Basse Cour. Then turn right to reach the main street of Avesnes.

(16) Follow it to the left for about 200 metres (perhaps a chance to stock up on supplies?) and you will find Rue du Château d'eau on the left.

(17) Take this street, which slopes to the right. Just before you reach the main street, after No. 14, you will find a small lane on the left.

(18) Take this lane. After a few dozen metres, turn left (still on the lane) to reach Rue de la Poste.

(19) Turn right, then immediately left onto another small lane and you will reach Rue du Bois Bloquel. Follow it for about 60 metres on the right.

(20) Turn left onto the wide paved path. When it turns right, continue straight ahead on a grassy path. Pass under a high-voltage power line and join a better-maintained path.

(21) Follow this road to the right, pass under the high-voltage power line again and join the D75.

(22) Cross it (be careful!) andtake the grassy path opposite (barrier). At the end (barrier), take the street on the left (Calvaire), then immediately turn right onto Rue du Calvaire. You will reach a crossroads. See practical information 2.

(23) Turn right until you reach the T-junction. There, a quick right-left turn leads to Rue du Cimetière, which you follow to the car park (S/E).

Notes

No major difficulties, but make sure you are wearing suitable footwear.

Practical information 1: the tree that blocked the path has now disappeared (SURICATE info from 13/02/2026).

Practical information 2: at the point (23), it would be more pleasant to take the alley opposite. Unfortunately, at the end of January 2026, there is a pile of bricks there: it is possible to cross, but with caution. At the end of the alley, take the Grand Rue on the right, then immediately left and again immediately right to find the alley you took at the start.

A beautiful hike with wide, long paths, done in wet weather with some rain, but the paths weren't too muddy. The little views of Avesnes le Conte were nice. The cemetery at point 10 only has a bench.

Hello. The small alleyway for returning still has its brick wall and is now closed off by a fence that blocks access.
