Saint-Symphorien-de-Mahun walks

A walk around Saint-Symphorien-de-Mahun alternates between forest undergrowth and flower-filled meadows, high altitude with panoramic views and bucolic valleys, century-old forest paths built stone by stone by hand and those made with bulldozers. An oppidum, a mushroom discovery trail and a 12th-century church punctuate this superb route, which promises beautiful panoramic views from the heights of the various screes and Mont Chaix overlooking the Ay valley.

It stays at a high altitude, as none of the trails described here descend into the valley. Lalouvesc is also a remarkable site from which, on a clear day, you can see the Alps.

Starting from the village of Vaudevant, this pleasant loop takes you on a journey of discovery through varied and peaceful countryside. The trail alternates between high ground, offering beautiful views of the Ardèche hills, and shaded passages through the undergrowth, ideal for enjoying a little coolness. You will pass through the hamlets of Brudon and Sauze, which bear witness to the local rural heritage, before returning leisurely to the starting point. Easily accessible and without any major difficulties, this walk is suitable for anyone looking to enjoy a beautiful break in the heart of the Ardèche countryside.

The Maumarcha or the fantastic trail of northern Vivarais: over (more than) 1.2 km, behind a tree or a rock, you will encounter strange characters... let your imagination run wild and be amazed by the whimsical creations of nature... Then return via the Grand Felletin, where, according to the elders, it is possible to see the three suns at dawn, when the latter is reflected on Mont Blanc.

A pleasant little walk along a wide forest path, surrounded by tall pine trees, to the Grand Felletin orientation table and the magnificent panorama that can be seen from there. In September, take a basket with you, as there are mushrooms to be found.

A short, easy hike around Villevocance which, on a clear day, offers panoramic views of the Rhône Valley, the Alps, Burdignes and the Vocance Valley.

A short walk off the beaten track. Short but intense at the start, it follows paths that have almost been forgotten, including one along a cliff edge.

A very pleasant hike with remarkable views. The climb to the Col du Marchand is along beautiful trails winding through dense forests and open pastures, offering a peaceful and varied atmosphere. Once at the pass, the route continues towards the Sardier massif, where a superb panorama opens up over the surrounding area. The descent passes through the hamlets of Les Bauds and Nectardechois, adding an authentic touch to the route. This is a pleasant, well-balanced hike that is particularly remarkable for its many viewpoints.

This charming loop, starting from Saint-Félicien, takes you on a journey of discovery through authentic landscapes and a charming rural heritage. Following quiet paths, you will first plunge into the Vivance valley, a green setting where the river winds peacefully between meadows and undergrowth. This shady, refreshing passageway offers a moment of true serenity in the heart of nature. Continuing on your way, you will reach the picturesque village of Vaudevant. Nestled in the hills of the Ardèche, this small village charms visitors with its character, old stones, narrow streets and authentic atmosphere. The return to Saint-Félicien is gentle, with the rolling hills of the Haut-Vivarais as a backdrop. An accessible walk, both bucolic and cultural, ideal for getting some fresh air while discovering a preserved local heritage.

This is a beautiful hike in the hills, offering superb views of the Rhône valley and the Alps, as well as the northern Vivarais mountains. On the way back to Annonay, the trail winds above the Cance valley before it becomes a gorge once you have passed Annonay. The crossing of the ridges with broom in bloom in late spring will not leave nature lovers indifferent.

This is a lovely little loop to enjoy Montmiandon, with a beautiful view of the Annonay basin. The elevation gain is low, but it offers a very pleasant view of Annonay. Much of the trail is in the woods, making it possible to do this loop even when it's hot.
