This walk will introduce you to a rich architectural heritage, beautiful panoramic views of Angoulême, the vineyards, the islands and the shaded banks of the Charente.
From the old village of Vénat to the Thouérat lock
Discover the hidden side of Saint-Yrieix sur Charente. Depart from the village of Vénat, with its church and beautiful houses sheltered behind their porches, to reach the banks of the Charente River and the Thouérat lock. A varied route that combines nature and heritage and has some wonderful surprises in store (viewpoints, fountains). The countryside in the city!
Along the Charente River in the Charente Bohème and Charreau region
Hike along the Charente river via the Îles de Fleurac.
Please note that it is no longer possible to complete the circular route, as it is no longer possible to cross the footbridges to the Îles de Fleurac.
A route through vineyards and stone walls
A wonderful immersion in the Cognac vineyards via ridge paths where splendid 360° panoramic views await the hiker on either side of the Fontguyon valley.
The Périph'vert in Angoulême
This is a beautiful urban hike offering exceptional views of the Vieil Angoulême plateau and allowing you to discover remarkable preserved natural areas in Angoulême, Soyaux, L'Isle d'Espagnac and Gond Pontouvre.

The Petite Prairie route starting from the lake
Situated in a protected area, this is a more secluded and unspoilt part of the Coulée Verte, running alongside the branches of the Charente, which will take you to the charming village of Saint-Yriex Vénat and its chapel. As you climb up through the Bois des Rouyers, you will discover the Fontaine des Pots, where hemp was once retted.
Walk along the South Quay in Angoulême
A walk along both banks of the Charente, in an urban setting, past green spaces and disused buildings, with some very picturesque views. It ends with a lovely 1km stretch along the south quay.
Route between Touvre and Charente

From the town centre to the Forêt des Moines in La Couronne
This walk starts in the centre of La Couronne; you will pass the Town Hall, then Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church, the renovation of which was completed in 2020. You will cross the courtyard and then the garden of Château de l’Oisellerie. After skirting the Bois de l’Oisellerie and crossing the Forêt des Moines, you will return to the town centre via the villages of Grand Maine and Les Barrets.
The Lycée de l’Oisellerie prohibits anyone from crossing its grounds for safety reasons.

Around Champmillon
This walk takes you along the Charente river before returning to the starting point through the vineyards. A very peaceful and pleasant route.
Anguienne Fountains Route
Cliffs, boulders and old quarries frame this lush valley with its waterlogged soil and rich heritage, which you can discover by following the course of the Anguienne and from the top of the cliffs.
Antornac route
This nature-filled hike begins with a walk through the Soyaux woods, before reaching the Font Noire valley and skirting the Entreroches cliffs. After passing through the Saint-Martial gate in Antornac, walkers will first come across the Montboulard residence, then the old town and Saint-Matthieu Church.

Route of Les Meulières de Claix and Les Chaumes du Vignac
The hike to the Meulières de Claix and Chaumes du Vignac sites is located south-west of Angoulême, 20 minutes by car via the RN 10. A protected site for its flora and fauna, it is a limestone plateau offering beautiful views of the Claix valley. The hike is beautiful and offers varied landscapes alternating between rocky areas (Meulières and Chaumes du Vignac), forests, vineyards, hamlets, historical monuments and cultivated plains.
