Walk along the North Quay in Angoulême

Car park next to the Comic Strip Museum.

(S/E) Facing the Charente, head right to follow the river along the quay path.
Walk 200m, go under the Saint-Cybard bridge and rejoin the quays. Continue to the next bridge, 600m further on.

(1) Go under the road bridge (Boulevard Henri Thébault). Adjacent to the bridge pier on the right, there is a staircase leading back up onto the bridge. At the top of the stairs, turn right and follow the boulevard to cross the bridge.

Once at the end of the bridge, walk 50m then take the path down the embankment on the right which leads to Frégeneuil Park. Go under the bridge to head back up the Charente, following the path along the small branch.

(2) Take the footbridge on the left to cross the Anguienne and the branch of the Charente and reach Île aux Vaches. Cross the island (400m) following the path. Cross the next footbridge, continue along the path and pass under the Saint-Cybard bridge again. Continue along the car park of the Paper Museum for 200m and pass by the large red-brick chimney to reach the foot of the wooden footbridge.

(3) Climb the wooden footbridge using the stairs. Once at the top, turn left towards the statue of Corto Maltese and continue to the finish line opposite the Comic Strip Museum, 100m further on (S/E).

You can easily extend the walk:
Halfway along: enjoy Frégeneuil Park: several paths, benches, a bar and fairground rides.
Before the end: when you reach the footbridge near the Corto Maltese statue, a staircase on the left leads down to Île Marquais. This extends the nature walk with a short circular loop of a few hundred metres.
