Entrecasteaux walks

The village of Entrecasteaux developed around a beautiful medieval castle in the Bresque Valley. The hike begins in front of the beautiful garden attributed to Le Nôtre at the foot of the medieval castle. After reaching the top of the village, it follows beautiful tracks and paths towards Saint-Antonin-sur-Var. It then climbs towards the ridge north of Entrecasteaux to reach the Défens de Valpaironne viewpoint.

This hike will visit the village of Carcés, Carcés Lake and the splendid Caramy Falls. Best in the spring when the water flow is stronger. You also will take a part of the path of Saint Jacques de Compostela.

The medieval village of Cotignac is one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" and was voted "France's Favourite Village" in 2022. The impressive Tuf Rock and its troglodyte dwellings, the Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Grâces, the old 16th and 17th century houses lining the narrow streets, the Cours Gambetta with its beautiful façades and plane trees, the 17th century Church of Notre Dame de l'Annonciation, the Grand-Rue, the Town Hall Square, the 17 fountains and the two 14th-century towers are the main attractions in Cotignac. The route crosses the Cours Gambetta, climbs up to the Chapel of Notre-Dame des Grâces, continues along the Chemin de Notre Dame, descends towards the village through the Les Verdares and Le Derroc districts, then passes through the Ville-Haute and the Rocher cliff.

This loop allows you to discover ancient dwellings on the plateau and a megalithic tomb.

Hike starting from the charming village of Cabasse, near Carcès, where you can discover several historical sites.

Vieux Cannet des Maures is a village full of character, certainly worthwhile a visit. Entraygues, the cave chapel of Saint Michel and the natural arches of Argens.

The Bessillon twins are battered witnesses to history. Occupied during the Iron Age, they saw Pontevès develop during the Middle Ages and served as a refuge for the Resistance during theSecond World War.Developed by the Provence Verdon Community of Communes, the Randonner Autrement project aims to introduce families to the natural heritage, the outlying built heritage, the landscapes and their evolution, as well as views of the villages. This is a short tour that can be completed in an hour and allows you to recharge your batteries in nature. Starting from the Vidauban athletics stadium, after a few kilometres on a tarmac road, you will experience your first change of scenery with a ford that can be more or less difficult to cross depending on the season. Then you follow the golf course fence, first on a tarmac road and then, after a few hundred metres, on a very rough track, but the golf course offers magnificent views. Leaving the golf course, you enter the woods on small tracks, then cross another ford before reaching the Route du Plan de la Tour, after crossing another ford and the bridge over the Aille. The route ends by taking another grassy, shaded path.

This route can be challenging at times, especially after rain, but the landscapes it passes through are truly breathtaking. Starting in the Plaine des Maures, you cross a forest of umbrella pines, Douglas firs, holm oaks and cork oaks. The terrain varies greatly, from sand and pebbles to stones and tarmac, allowing you to catch your breath as you go. The highlights are the Route des Crêtes Marc Robert, which reveals Lac des Escarcets, a silvery lake in the middle of the green plain, and the descent of the Cinq Sedes, winding down to the village of Les Mayons with its many viewpoints. An unforgettable route!

A beautiful hike between plains and low mountains, offering sumptuous landscapes. Start at the Aille and, after a few kilometres, tackle the first 3 km climb. Descend for 2 kilometres before tackling the hardest part: a climb of about 6 kilometres that starts on a track that is half sand, half earth, before turning into a stony track.

A beautiful, easy hike in the Maures plain. It crosses the plains, passes over the Aille, crosses fords, goes through woods, and ventures onto a botanical trail with descriptions. The return journey follows the same route, with a few variations, and, as on the way there, care should be taken on the bends in the track north of Les Plaines, which hide the watercourses that can cause severe erosion.

A very picturesque route which, when the weather conditions are right, allows you to observe the Pic de l'Ours on the Estelle on one side and Notre-Dames des Anges on the Maures on the other, from the vicinity of the summit of Castel Diaou. You'll pass through a multitude of different landscapes in the woods, valleys and ridges. You follow the Argens and the Aille, and cross them after, or even before, overlooking them.

A loop with three major points of interest: - the village of Pontevès and its ruined castle at the top of the village, - the climb up the Petit Bessillon, offering a beautiful view of the Var department, and its technical descent, - the return to Barjols via the Vallon des Carmes and its waterfalls (currently closed, see practical information). Unfortunately, the first hour of the hike is mainly on roads in order to complete the loop.

The walk to the Saint-Quinis Chapel offers exceptional views of the Issole Valley from the ridge.

An easy walk in the Massif des Maures. Beautiful trails, rivers, streams, lakes and unique terrain. Not to mention the cork oaks, characteristic of the massif, and a varied flora (dwarf irises, anemones, orchids, etc.). A walk in the hills of Forcalqueiret Castle: Le Castellas. As access to the ruins has been prohibited since 2017, this circuit brings together several pleasant trails that reveal the castle from different angles.

A pretty walk off the beaten path. The views are breathtaking in diverse landscapes, all from the beautiful little hilltop village of Artignosc-sur-Verdon.

An easy hike with little elevation gain. A wide variety of landscapes in a wetland area: wooded areas, vineyards, open spaces, rock formations, varied vegetation (beautiful dwarf irises in April). Numerous fords and streams, pleasant in spring. moderator's note: site closed since 10/09/2021 until further notice

An easy walk in the Garéoult Communal Woods. The route alternates between paths through oak woods and stony tracks. The woods provide food for goats, which graze on the bushes and low oak foliage. Their milk is made into cheese at the Bergerie du Défens.

A beautiful hike that is neither long nor difficult, and which can be extended to the Source des Orris if you have more time.

In the hinterland of Saint-Tropez, a beautiful hike allows you to discover the old town of La Garde-Freinet, beautiful landscapes of heathland and cork oak forests, as well as the Roches Blanches, a rocky outcrop of quartz. Not to mention the Croix des Maures and Fort Freinet, carved into the rock in the Middle Ages.
