Description of the walk

Park in the large car park at the caves in the village of Villecroze.

(S/E) Go around the small handball/basketball court, take the pedestrian crossing, then take the Chemin (tarmac) du Colombier opposite, which winds its way up. Go up to the end.

(1) At the right-hand corner (house gate), take the yellow-marked path opposite, which climbs steeply in large hairpin bends through the forest. Continue along the road.

(2) At the crossroads, follow the road to the left. Then at the junction, take the road that climbs straight ahead (signposted Tourtour, the paved slanting street).

(3) At the next crossroads, turn right (the road continues to climb). Then continue along the road that climbs to the left to enter the village of Tourtour and, at the next hairpin bend, climb the stairs between the houses and turn right to go up Rue d'Aups to the centre of the village (fountain, restaurants, etc.).
At the fountain, turn left onto Rue de Laval, which quickly leads to Rue des Caves. Continue along this street to the left, passing the castle and the wash house, and leave the village.

(4) In front of the chapel, turn onto the road on the left (Chemin de Chavardet). Cross a road and continue straight ahead (former Chemin d'Aups, Tour de Grimaud). Stay on this road.

(5) Leave the road and take a track on the right. Pass in front of a ruin and continue on the track on the right which enters a pleasant ravine.

(6) Stay on the right path and climb a little further to a small pass and a road.

(7) Take the road to the right (west), passing in front of the chapel. After 150 m, turn left onto Chemin de Beauvezet, then take Route des Caves to return to the crossroads you passed on the way out of the village.

(4) Cross the village again in the opposite direction to the outward journey via Rue de Laval, Rue d'Aups and the paved slanting street, La Calade.

(2) Keep left on Chemin des Bernardins.

(8) Turn right onto Chemin des Tuiliers.

(9) When the tarmac ends, take the small marked path that descends to the right.

(10) Leave this path to descend to the right (northeast) and quickly join another path. Continue descending (west), join a path and follow it to the left (southwest).

(11) Look for a small path on the right (west), which descends further and quickly turns into a very stony (even rocky) trail, with markings that are not always clear, which follows a series of short ascents and descents.
You will come back to the Chemin du Colombier (tarmac road) that you took at the start.

(1) Go back down the road to return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Don't hesitate to explore Tourtour from top to bottom, with its old streets, its old wine press (on Rue d'Aups on the left when you reach the top of the small staircase), its church at the other end, its viewpoint, and more.
And before returning your car to Villecroze, be sure to visit the park, with its waterfall, troglodyte caves, and more.

We travelled this route in autumn, so it was not very busy. Beautiful autumn colours. We really enjoyed visiting Tourtour.

The hike could have been very nice, Tourtour is a beautiful village to visit, but before getting there there is a lot of tarmac, the section up to Les Molières is nice. The rest of the way back to Tourtour is all tarmac, about an hour... The descent to Villecroze through the forest is the nicest part.

A lovely walk that takes you to Tourtour, a pretty hilltop village. Part of this walk is on a road (with fairly little traffic). The end of the route is quite stony, so caution is advised.

A very pleasant walk. The Villecroze-Tourtour route may not be the most picturesque part of the walk, but the villages are well worth visiting. Be sure to take the short detour to visit the Grimaldi Tower.

I recommend this walk, the instructions are clear.
It is varied and both villages are worth visiting.
The paths are generally in good condition, but I recommend good walking shoes because of the stones in some places.
In June, there was a variety of wild flowers in bloom.
The last path from point 11 is quite difficult at the end of a long walk.

Thanks to fluellen83 for suggesting this route. It allows you to discover two pretty villages in the Haut-Var with their typical narrow streets. A nice climb at the start on a stony path, then a bit of tarmac and after (5), a lovely route through the woods among the ferns and then (9) another lovely route through the woods: that's how I would sum up this route. After (4), the IGN map indicates Tour de Grimaud, but on the ground, a sign indicates Tour de Grimaldi. The route does not pass by this tower, but it is worth a short detour. This 12th-century square tower offers a lovely view.
