Start from the car park in the centre of the village, near the castle gardens.
(S/E) After reaching the garden, opposite the town hall, climb up to the upper part of the village towards the castle and the church. From here, there is a beautiful view to the east, particularly of the Pont Saint-Pierre bridge. Reach the bridge over the Bresque river and cross it.
(1) Note the wash house, then continue to the right towards Saint-Antonin-du-Var and stay on the beautiful track until you reach a road. Follow it and find a path that starts opposite, after crossing the small road that branches off to the right.
(2) Take the path that cuts across the bend and rejoins the track. Turn left and continue straight ahead. The path narrows and is sometimes cluttered with branches and tree trunks, which are easy to cross.
(3) At Bastides d'Estelle, you need to be careful. After the first houses, look for the signpost on the left and take the path towards Salernes. This pretty path runs alongside a large vineyard and then enters the undergrowth, generally following the bottom of the valley. Join the small tarmac track and follow it to the right until you reach the cemetery.
(4) At the multiple crossroads, continue along Chemin du Panouquier Sud, which runs alongside the vineyards on the left.
(5) Pass under the bridge of the old railway line, which has been converted into a cycle path. At the next intersection, keep to the track on the left and head towards Menton.
(6) Take a short detour through the village and rejoin the route on the road. Cut across the bend via a small path on the right, pass in front of the Domaine de Mentone and continue to the next crossroads.
(7) Continue straight ahead along the track towards the vineyard. Walk along the vineyard, climbing up a stony path to reach the ridge. After walking alongside a beautiful olive grove on your right, you will reach a small road.
(8) Turn right, pass a cistern, then turn left. Continue straight ahead on the track, pass a telecommunications antenna on your right and arrive at a three-way junction with a path on the left.
(9) Continue straight ahead on the main track that follows the summit and reach the Défens de Valpaironne viewpoint.
(10) Then return to the previous crossroads.
(9) Turn right and descend towards the village via an easy stony path. Cross the road and continue straight ahead downhill to reach the route taken at Pont Saint-Pierre.
(1) Head back up towards the castle before reaching the garden (S/E).
