It was against this backdrop that the final act of Jean-Nicolas Stofflet’s life unfolded. A former gamekeeper for Count Colbert de Maulévrier, he became one of the leading figures of the Vendée uprising before being ambushed and arrested at daybreak, wounded by Republican bayonets. Amidst the typical landscapes of the Mauges and significant historical sites, this route takes you to the scene of a historic night that changed the region’s history forever.
