The Gaschets around La Salle-de-Vihiers

Set off from the forest leisure area, accessible via Rue des Chênes, and follow the yellow markings.

(S/E) Take the path to the north of the pond and join the Allée des Oiseaux. Turn right onto Rue de la Tourlandry, then onto Rue Sainte-Anne, until you reach the car park on your right.

(1) At the junction, turn left into Rue de l’École, then onto Rue des Mimosas. Continue to Rue Principale, at the junction near a crucifix. Turn left, then immediately right; a little further on, you’ll find yourself facing the entrance to the Rose Giet residential complex.

(2) Turn left, then carry on straight ahead until you reach the ‘Le Patis’ sign at the junction near a crucifix.

(3) Turn right, then, at the ‘Carrefour des Gaschets’, turn right again to head back down towards the village due south until you reach the crossroads in front of a wooden cross.

(4) Turn left onto the grassy path and follow it up to Rue d’Anjou. Turn right, then left into “Le Champ de la Salle”. You’ll come out onto a tarmac road. Turn right, then left again to join the D756.

(5) Turn left along the departmental road and immediately right onto Chemin du Moulin Neuf. When you reach the D171, cross it and continue straight ahead to return to the starting point at the forest recreation area (S/E).

La Tourlandry Castle
Since 2018, the site, right in the heart of the village, has been brought back to life under the guidance of its dynamic owners. The château is a multifaceted venue, serving as tourist accommodation, a cultural centre with a permanent exhibition on the history of science and technology from the Second Empire to the digital age, and a visitor centre. The grounds are also well worth exploring, with their lush vegetation and water-filled moats.

The old bell tower – Saint Vincent Church in La Tourlandry
The church, built in the 19th century (below) in the Byzantine Romanesque style, is the work of Father Vincent. Partially destroyed in 2010, its interior has been rebuilt in a contemporary style. You can visit it before or after your circular walk. You’ll actually start near the old bell tower, which forms part of an older building rebuilt in 1804.
