Hauts-de-Seine walks

You pass by the Etang d'Ursine, a nameless pond, then the Etang du Trou aux Gants, before reaching the Chêne des Missions, a remarkable tree surrounded by pseudo-megaliths. This route starts in the Mare Adam forest park and continues through the Meudon National Forest, with a brief detour into a pretty residential area. Allow half a day for this walk.

Sung about by Georges Brassens, the Bois de Clamart and Meudon woods offer many attractions for walkers, in addition to "little flowers" and "friends". The numerous ponds dotted along the route are particularly enjoyable. A few paths winding through the undergrowth, some remarkable trees and a little heritage add to the pleasure of this half-day walk.

Discover "New Urbanism", where proximity and diversity are key, and the commune of Le Plessis-Robinson is a typical example. The Promenade des Berges has the feel of a "little Venice in the Hauts-de-Seine" and the four wooded parks you pass through add an undeniable touch of greenery to this urban route.

We start by exploring Billancourt's industrial past on the former Renault factory sites, with a detour to the Ile Seguin. We then continue on to the Ile Saint-Germain, with its residential area and large green park. We end with a tribute to French cinema. This is an urban itinerary, but numerous parks and gardens, as well as many passageways, alleys and even footpaths, allow you to avoid the inconveniences of traffic.

Through the Parc de Sceaux, the castle and pavilions, ponds, gardens and more secret places. The waterfalls are reopening after renovation. (August 2021) Moderator's warning (April 2021): between the points (1) and (2), the waterfalls are under construction and the area is closed to the public. Reach the Bassin de l'Octogone via the Plaine de l'Orangerie and the alley that extends from it, then descend a large staircase on the right and follow a gravel path.

This walk from Neuilly-sur-Seine takes you along the towpaths on Île de Puteaux and then along the east bank of the Seine in a very pleasant, tree-lined setting to the Passerelle de l'Avre footbridge. The return route, which is more urban, takes you to the heights of Saint-Cloud (with beautiful views of Paris and La Défense), where you can discover the Parc du Château and the lively historic district in the centre of Suresnes before returning to Île de Puteaux via the François Coty footbridge.

Short, easy hike in the Verrières-le-Buisson Forest.

A mainly forest route with a pleasant section along the Etang de Saint-Cucufa and a brief detour through a residential area and old orchards to enjoy a beautiful view from the Belvédère des Gallicourts. A half-day walk.

Well known to Parisians, the Bois de Boulogne offers many possibilities for walks. This one, which can be done in half a day, avoids paved paths as much as possible and offers a pleasant route along a stream, "la Serpentine", and a lake, with an easy passage under a waterfall.

The Coulée Verte in southern Paris is a series of green spaces that have been created near or above the Atlantic TGV railway lines. The route, in the inner suburbs, follows this green corridor to its end. An urban walk in green surroundings that can be enjoyed in all seasons, on foot or by bike.

For tree and garden enthusiasts, this is an exotic walk just a stone's throw from Paris! The arboretum has a wide variety of species and landscapes. An enchanting detour through Île Verte completes the picture.

A hike from station to station that takes you on a rollercoaster ride through the Fausses-Reposes Forest and Saint-Cloud Park. Along the way, you can enjoy the Étangs de Ville-d'Avray, the park's ponds and statues, and a superb view of the Val de Seine and Paris.

Starting from Pont de Sèvres, this loop begins in an urban area but mainly takes place in the Meudon Forest, with a few hills. The end of the route follows the towpath along the Seine.

The second section of the women's march of 5 October 1789 takes more liberties with the supposed route of the procession at the time. Starting in Sèvres and ending in Versailles, the route is distinctly urban, but between the two, it is predominantly forest. The Palace of Versailles is the highlight of this hike (with its park if you wish to take an extra detour).

A loop that is largely forested, although located in a peri-urban area, where you also pass through a few residential neighbourhoods with spacious houses. The small town of Marnes, with its beautiful heritage, deserves the description "charming". A touch of remembrance is provided by the monument in homage to the Lafayette Escadrille.

This hike crosses Parc de Sceaux and the Verrières National Forest, then continues along the Bièvre, whose valley has been developed with numerous sports and leisure facilities. The presence of so many green spaces is surprising in an otherwise highly urbanised region.

After following paths through the town, this walk from station to station offers the chance to discover the Meudon Observatory and admire the sweeping views from the terrace of its park. The rest of the route is mainly through forest.

Dedicated to equestrian sports, the Haras de Jardy Departmental Park is open to the public. Starting from Marnes-la-Coquette, which lives up to its name, this short walk takes you along the paths of the park and the trails of the neighbouring Fausses-Reposes Forest.

The streets of Levallois-Perret are decorated with a large number of trompe-l'oeil paintings and murals. This urban trail takes you on a tour of around thirty of them, as you stroll through the city's grid-like streets and cross some of its public gardens.

From Pont de Sèvres to Pont de Saint-Cloud, with two long detours into the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud, with its woods and French gardens. The route also includes a stroll through the quiet streets of Sèvres, Ville d'Avray and Marnes-la-Coquette, with their beautiful heritage. The Étangs de Ville d'Avray offer a peaceful setting just a few kilometres from the urban centres.

A route that is half urban and half in the woods, in an old orchard or along the banks of the Seine. Napoleonic history is present, particularly at the Church of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul and in the Parc de Bois-Préau.

An urban route that runs partly through public parks or woods, away from traffic! Each park has its own identity, and the town centres of Châtillon and Clamart add their own heritage touch.

A hike from station to station in two stages. First, we zigzag through old Asnières, passing through squares and discovering a rich heritage. Then, we walk along the paths of the Gennevilliers green corridor, which winds its way through a highly urbanised setting.

A short hike on the slopes of the Val de Seine, through the old Fort d'Issy, which has been redeveloped, the public gardens of Issy-les-Moulineaux and the paths and stairs of Meudon. An urban route with some elevation changes, offering beautiful views and a diverse heritage.

An urban hike that combines heritage and remembrance! The route, inspired by a trail designed by the municipality of Suresnes, takes us through the heart of a garden city with architecture typical of the 1930s, built in response to the social motivations of the mayor at the time, Henri Sellier. Several places of remembrance also mark this walk, including the Fort du Mont Valérien.

A varied hike starting from Parc de Sceaux, passing through Parc de la Vallée aux Loups, the house of Chateaubriand, the garden cities of Plessis-Robinson with its allotments and river, which runs at the foot of the buildings. The hike ends with a walk through the forest of Meudon.

A path from Sèvres-Ville d'Avray station to Versailles-Rive Droite station, mostly through the Fausses Reposes forest, which allows you to visit Marnes-la-Coquette, the Étangs de Corot in Ville d'Avray and the Parc des Haras de Jardy, France's leading equestrian centre.

A thoroughly urban route in the heart of the famous business district, but where you are rarely bothered by traffic. An itinerary that allows you to discover the architectural boldness and inventive diversity of the many towers that rise to over 200 metres. This walk is best done outside of working days.

A short walk, mostly along the Seine and through three public parks, where even in a highly urbanised setting, it is possible to find peaceful spots.

A route through two wooded areas on either side of the Seine. From one large waterfall to another, from one racecourse to another, the hike alternates between paths and urban passages, flower beds and sculpted heritage, ponds and lakes.

An itinerary almost entirely surrounded by greenery in a densely urbanised area! The circular paths within the park are complemented by a walk along the banks of the Seine. The charming Jardin Ombre et Lumière (Shadow and Light Garden) and the reed beds of the lake are sure to delight enthusiasts.

This hike first takes us up the hill of Saint-Cloud, then through the park of the same name with its gardens, flower beds, ponds and Greco-Roman-inspired statues. We then walk through a residential area with beautiful houses. After crossing the Bois de La Celle, we walk through the "village" of La Celle Saint-Cloud to reach Bougival station.

The Parc de Boulogne, not to be confused with the Bois du même nom, offers visitors the chance to discover its English-style park and Japanese garden. After visiting the park, you can stroll through the streets of the Menus district, the historic heart of Boulogne.

An urban route where you can admire architecture from various periods. A stone's throw from the La Défense district, in the shadow of its vertiginous towers, the Parc André Malraux and its collection garden offer a preserved setting.

The commune of Bois-Colombes is home to many townhouses nestled in narrow streets, lanes and cul-de-sacs known as "villas" or "avenues". This urban route takes you along a number of these streets, allowing you to discover the charms of spacious housing and diverse architecture.

An urban route where the Seine takes centre stage, along with the many houseboats moored on its quays! You cross the entire length of the Ile de la Jatte and the hike ends at the foot of the La Défense towers.

An urban route with some elevation changes, crossing wooded parks and residential areas in old Nanterre. Along the way, there are numerous views of Paris and the large housing estates of the Val de Seine, a memorial at Fort du Mont Valérien, an old windmill and an old barn.

A hike from station to station in the southern part of the Meudon Forest. The route alternates between wide paths and little-used trails where a good sense of direction is required. Along the way, you will pass four pleasant ponds and come across a small Neolithic menhir.

A short hike, from station to station, in two stages. First, follow the Coulée Verte along the route of an old disused railway line, then a green walkway, both of which have been converted for pedestrians. Next, explore the streets and alleys to discover a diverse range of residential architecture.

The 1930s Trail was designed by the City of Boulogne-Billancourt. Discover a rich architectural heritage, thanks to the imagination of architects such as Le Corbusier, Courrèges, Mallet-Stevens and others. An original urban route that pays tribute to the creative movement of the interwar period.

After enjoying the sweeping views from the Observatory Terrace, we wind our way through the many paths of Meudon. The Longs Réages cemetery holds a surprise in the form of a Neolithic dolmen converted into a modern burial site... This route ends along the Seine and on Île Seguin, where a concert hall complex with an apt name has now been built.

An urban route from station to station with a water theme! After crossing Parc du Chemin de l'Ile with its many ponds, follow the towpath along the Seine. Two detours into Parc Lagravère complete the picture.

A beautiful, challenging hike in the forest, just a stone's throw from Paris. Choose between 25 km or 35 km, with 700 and 900 m of elevation gain respectively. Despite a few urban sections, most of the route is in the heart of the forest, shaded by deciduous trees. The forest is beautiful, and there are some lovely views, but the appeal is more athletic than touristy. The route includes many quick changes of direction, making it difficult to follow without GPS. The entire route is less than 10 km from the western part of Paris.

The town of Levallois offers a wide variety of styles, materials and standards of living. Elegant Haussmann-style buildings stand alongside former industrial buildings and the first social housing blocks from the 1960s, with brick façades often adorned with ceramic motifs. Today, the town is home to numerous corporate headquarters and office blocks, whilst new, large modern residential developments surrounded by green spaces are springing up.

A short walk from station to station through the Fausses-Reposes State Forest and the Bois des Fonds Maréchaux, passing by the Étangs de Ville-d'Avray.

The Bernard Lafay promenade takes us to Boulevard Pereire, where we join Square des Batignolles and Martin Luther King Park. The return route takes us through squares, passageways and narrow streets. Along the way, we come across some interesting murals and original contemporary architecture.
