Villeneuve walks

Starting from the charming La Pineta campsite, this walk takes you on a journey of discovery through the region, combining history, nature and quaint little hamlets. The route alternates between country lanes, nature trails and sections through villages. Some sections may be more challenging, with paths that are occasionally steep, narrow or rugged. A good level of fitness and suitable footwear are therefore recommended. The route favours quiet paths and tracks as much as possible to avoid roads. However, a few road crossings are unavoidable during the walk. A wonderful way to discover the region in a different light, whilst making the most of its landscapes and heritage.

A magnificent route featuring an open-air museum. The climb to the refuge is dotted with numerous sculptures. You will be surprised by strange creatures, characters and animals hidden behind trees or rocks. The route features around 300 pieces, all created by Siro Vierin. Between the Fallère Refuge and Lago Fallère, you will walk along the Tour du Mont Fallère trail.

A pleasant route that alternates between mountain pastures and forests to reach Mont Joux. This modest peak offers a view of Monte Bianco. The route also offers a wide panorama of peaks ranging from 3,000 to almost 4,000 metres, such as Punta Pousset (3,046) above Cogne, Grivola (3,969), the Grand Paradis massif and Punta del Ran (3,272) in the Ruitor massif.

The final day of the Tour du Mont Fallere. The first part of the day involves climbing to the Col Fenêtre, followed by a bonus ascent to the summit of Monte di Vertosan (3,821 m) for an exceptional 360° panorama (Mont Blanc – Grand Combin – Matterhorn – Gran Paradiso). This is followed by a long descent, with a fairly steep, winding first section, then a fast, rolling track through the forest to round off the circular tour.

The second stage of the Tour du Mont Fallere promises a day of stunning views. Once you’ve completed the climb up to the ridges, the path alternates between descents and ascents, offering panoramic views of the Matterhorn to begin with, followed by the entire Aosta Valley and the peaks along the border.

First stage of a circular route in the Gran Paradiso National Park, based on the5th stage of the Gran Paradiso Crossing proposed by bernardino. A long stage: 4 hours 20 minutes’ ascent and 3 hours 10 minutes’ descent. Splendid views of Gran Paradiso and along small mountain lakes.

A walk through the hunting grounds of King Victor Emmanuel, who owned a very large building in Orvieille that is currently being refurbished. Passing through the mountain pastures that follow, the very pretty Lac de Djouan then comes into view.

A long day lies ahead with the climb to the Col de Lauzon (3,299m). This is the highest point of the TDG. The descent from the pass is pure delight. It is possible to run downhill for 3–4 km to the Vittorio Sella Refuge. It is a large refuge with plenty of people. The descent to Valnontey is also long, but there are plenty of cafés to rest in.

A pleasant climb with views of the lake. The Chalet de l’Épée refuge is a great place to relax before the climb up to the pass. On the other side of the pass, there may be a snowfield in a narrow gully, so be careful if you’re wearing trail shoes. The Refuge de la Marmotte is a collaborative refuge. The wardens are there for two weeks and the food is good!

An easy walk from the beautiful village of Gimillan to Lago Money. You can decide what to do when you arrive at waypoint 2:Most people walk to the Laghi di Lussert, which is also very beautiful, but a 1-hour longer walk.I did it a few years ago, that's why we walked to the silent and very beautiful Lago Money.

An easy walk at the bottom of the Rhêmes Valley, through larch and spruce forests and along the Grand Ru irrigation canal. A short, slightly steeper detour takes you to the beautiful Vallon d’Entrelor and the Refuge Delle Marmotte. On the way back, don’t miss the chance to admire the stunning Entrelor Waterfall and the lovely little Lake Pellaud.

The Waterfalls Trail: thesecond stage of a circular route in the Gran Paradiso National Park. Starting from Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, you reach Rifugio Benevolo, passing numerous impressive waterfalls along the way.

A short, pleasant walk for when the weather is a bit unpredictable. A walk along an irrigation canal, also known as the Rû. We start in the quiet village of Bruil and make a loop back via Pessey and Rhêmes-Notre-Dame. We start with a decent climb, but after that, it is relaxed.

Another valley trek, the aim of today is Valsavarenche.

A beautiful and fairly easy walk to a very nice Refigio. A large part is through the forest, so there is plenty of shade. After the Refigio, you can walk a little further to sit and relax at a small current (2). If you fancy a very short walk (due to bad weather, for example), turn left at (3) instead of going up. You walk along a very old irrigation canal (Rû).

This pleasant route offers spectacular views of the Gran Paradiso massif. You’ll be able to see numerous ice waterfalls, which attract ice climbers from all over the world.

A fairly popular hike that takes you close to the foothills of Gran Paradiso. You might spot some ibex if you’re lucky!

A short day as the next day takes you into the Gran Paradiso National Park, where camping is prohibited; I had to cut the stage short, otherwise it would have had to be extended unreasonably. The Hostellerie du Gran Paradis is the only place to stay overnight. The food is great, but be warned: at weekends there are often Italians, French people, etc. out mountain biking.

A very beautiful walk with varied scenery and fairly accessible (between Aosta and the Great St Bernard Pass), offering three stages – two long and one short – with two nights in comfortable mountain huts. Once you’ve left the forest zone, the views of all the surrounding mountain ranges are magnificent.

First day of the Tour du Mont Fallere. It’s a fairly quick day’s climb, mainly through woodland, to reach the Chaligne refuge. The route alternates between quiet forest tracks and some good, steeper sections of climb, with no technical difficulties.

A superb route that begins in a larch forest and continues over a succession of hilltops. The arrival at the pass beneath Mont Flassin offers a phenomenal view. From Gran Paradiso to the Grandes Jorasses, via the Matterhorn and so many others. The panorama is exceptional.

A route to discover the typical villages that line the famous Col du Grand Saint-Bernard road. On the way there, you will follow the Via Francigena to climb up to the village of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses, renowned for its cured ham. You will also pass through the villages of Étroubles, Saint-Oyen, Cerisey and Les Bosses, characterised by stone chalets with slate roofs.

Fourth stage between Valgisenche and Val de Rheme.

The third stage of the Tour de l’Archeboc, between France and Italy. A day offering panoramic views of several French and Italian glaciers. Shorter in distance and elevation gain than the other days of the tour, but with a few slightly more technical sections (scree slopes).

The route starts from the car park at the Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses ski resort, which is easily reached from Aosta. You quickly reach the mountain pastures after an initial climb through a larch forest. You pass a group of stone houses with slate roofs at the Arp du Bois Desot. Then, the landscape opens out onto the ridge of a vast mountain pasture which leads easily to the Fenêtre de Serena, where the view stretches across the French and Italian Alps as far as the eye can see.

Nestled at the foot of Tête du Ruitor and its glaciers, within a beautiful setting, Saint-Grat Lake is the highlight of any hike in its own right. Through the final twists and turns before the lake, the slope is smooth and the route straightforward. The next climb much steeper, leading to Refuge Adami gives you a stunning view point.

A day-long circular route taking you round the Truc de Tsanteleina and close to the foot of the Granta Parey, set in a rocky landscape that is home to Lake Tsanteleina, also known as Lago di Santa Elena.

A two part hike. First up the Doire de Valgrisenche, a steady slope offering a leafy, green landscape. From the refuge, the landscape becomes essentially mineral and the slope steeper all the way to Vuert's small perched lake. Stunning high mountain surroundings.

This is a long and tiring hike ending at a fantastic lake with nothing but eternal snow and even a glacier surrounding it! I skipped the Rifugio Benevolo because I had already done it a few days earlier. This Rifugio is well worth the effort and can easily be integrated into this trek.

A beautiful walk to the lovely Benevolo mountain hut on the edge of the Gran Paradiso National Park. Along flowing mountain streams and grazing cows and lots of flowers, even Edelweiss!!! Park your car in Thumel and take a relaxed walk back and forth.
