From the Turin-Aosta motorway (A5), exit at Aosta. Take the SS26 towards Saint Pierre. Take the SR22 to Caillet, then the SR41 to Vétan. The start and finish of this hike are in Vétan Villette, near the Notre Maison hotel (large car park).
(S/E) From the car park, take the steep road heading north-west until you reach a junction with a signpost and a wooden sculpture.
(1) At the sign, follow the direction for La Salle, stay on the track until the bend, then rejoin a secondary track just before the Vétan torrent.
(2) Look for the start of a path that runs alongside the stream in a north-westerly direction. Follow this shortcut to rejoin the track leading to Grand Arpilles.
(3) Turn left onto the track and continue until you come to another shortcut.
(4) Use this shortcut to cut two bends in the track.
(5) Return to the track and continue to the Grand Arpilles mountain pasture.
(6) Cross the Torrent de Vétan and head north-east until you reach a path. Here you will find several wooden sculptures of people and animals. There are tables and benches where you can take a break.
(7) Continue north on the track until you reach the small path that leads to the refuge.
(8) Leave the track and take the small path that leads directly to the Rifugio Fallère (refreshments available).
(9) Follow the trail around Mont Fallere eastwards and reach Lago delle Rane (Frog Lake).
(10) Leave the lake on your left and continue along this pleasant path to Lago Fallère.
(11) Return in the opposite direction to a fork you passed earlier (the one with tables and benches).
(7) Turn left and descend the fairly steep path that follows an old moraine.
(12) Turn right and continue down the gentler slope through the forest until you reach the initial crossroads after crossing the Vétan torrent.
(1) Return to the car park via the steep path you took on the way up. (S/E).
