Saint-Julien-en-Born walks

Circular trail to discover remarkable wetlands and forests.

A lovely walk through the woodland, amongst new pine plantations, and around the Ruisseau de Coulin. Organised by the Landes Departmental Council.

This route offers a wide variety of terrain, including streams, sunny stretches and shaded areas.

A very varied circular route that allows you to discover two sides of Mimizan. On the one hand, the historical side: the bell tower and porch, the wash house, the Borne de Sauveté, and Woolsack Castle. On the other hand, the geographical side: the dunes, the forest, the flora and the Lac d’Aureilhan Mimizan site.Please note: A local by-law dated 12 December 2017 prohibits use of the footbridge known as ‘Gombaut’ (point 7 on the map) for the safety of users. A pleasant walk in three parts: - the banks of the Courant de Mimizan - the forest and coastal dunes (flora and fauna) - the ocean and the beach.

A cycle route, there and back, from the Lette car park to the Contis lighthouse. A dedicated cycle path through the heart of the forest, following the Vélodyssée. The route is easy to follow and has virtually no elevation gain.

A very fine circuit, which can be modified to suit the length and type of path required. You follow the Huchet stream, a small river that flows from the Étang de Léon to the ocean. Spectacular flora and beautiful colours at the mouth of this walk through the Landes Amazon. Author's note 24 June 2024. Walk described on Visorando in 2019, done several times since then, but despite the work done on the footbridge, it is still closed. The forest rangers I met in October 2023 gave me no information about the reopening of the Nasse footbridge. The loop described in 2019 is therefore still not feasible in 2024. A return trip is therefore necessary. I recommend that you then drive to the mouth of the Huchet stream and follow the stream upstream, as the scenery is sublime depending on the time of day.

A challenging circuit offering high-quality and varied sections. Full of contrasts, it takes you from the banks of the Étang de Moliets to the peaks of a few hills, from the lush vegetation of the wetlands to the perfectly smooth green of the golf course.

A family walk in the heart of Vieux-Boucau’s communal forest. The route follows sections of the pidgeon hunting hut and Mare aux Biches nature trails before returning via the Léon-Soustons cycle path. Along the way, there are numerous benches, picnic tables and information boards describing the area. 

A lovely walk along wide, comfortable paths where you can see meadows, fields, woodland, lakes, streams and even llamas. As well as some beautiful Landes-style houses.

A varied and magnificent landscape characterises this circular walk starting from Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains towards the Étang de Moïsan. The route passes at the foot of the dunes, through the forest, then near the Messanges Semaphore before skirting the Étang de Moïsan and the pastures of the Landes sea cows. Finally, the return journey via the Léon–Soustons cycle path takes you back to the centre of Vieux-Boucau.

An original, easy and relaxing circular starting from Vieux-Boucau, going around the Port d'Albret marine lake and then reaching Messanges via the beach, with your feet in the water or not, depending on the tide. The return route passes by the Messanges semaphore, the Étang de Moïsan lake, then enters the Landes forest before reaching the Vieux-Boucau bullring.

Depending on your time and fitness level, do the double circular loop or just one of the two circular loops. This double circular loop will take you through the Landes forest and along the Courant de Soustons. The route starts in the centre of Vieux-Boucau, where there are quite a few people. Then head into the forest via the Courant de Soustons and the Voie Verte to Soustons and back. Once you reach Soustons, you can also walk around the lake for a hike that will last the whole day. There is little tarmac except in Vieux-Boucau and Soustons.

This lovely walk, through a forest of Landes pines and oaks, follows wide paths. There are a few tracks and some small roads. It can be done in all seasons, but in spring you can enjoy the broom in bloom.

A large circular loop around the Port d'Albret marine lake. Port d'Albret, now called Vieux-Boucau (old mouth), could have been the first port on the Landes coast if the Adour had not been diverted in 1578 to give it its current estuary at Bayonne.

This walk takes you along good sandy paths, mostly through a varied forest of pines, oaks, chestnut trees, acacias, broom, ferns and so on... From the Chemin de Bouhette, you can admire the magnificent Moulin de Pouymartet and cross the Ruisseau de Cabanes via a narrow 30 cm bridge (easy).
