Circular route from Monluc to Magescq

A lovely walk along wide, comfortable paths where you can see meadows, fields, woodland, lakes, streams and even llamas. As well as some beautiful Landes-style houses.

Description of the walk

From Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, take the Route de Magescq D16 (Route des Lacs) north-west. From the bridge crossing the dual carriageway, the D824, drive for 7.3 km and, at the crossroads at the hamlet of Houdin, turn right onto a small road. Continue for 700 m, then park in the space at the junction you come to at the hamlet of Monluc, Route des Bruyères.
From Magescq, take the D16 towards Dax, drive for 2.2 km and, at the Houdin crossroads, turn left and continue as described above.

(S/E) Opposite a magnificent large stone house, turn left, heading west. 100 m further on, depending on the season, you may see llamas on the right in a park by the roadside. You will reach a crossroads. Take the track on the right marked with a 20 km/h sign and follow it until the left-hand bend.

(1) Leave the road, turn right (fire brigade access sign) onto a dirt track.100 m further on, you will see a meadow with a pond on the right (and usually some llamas). Continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths to the left and right, until you reach a three-way junction.

(2) Turn right and follow this path to the high-voltage power line track, with chicken coops visible on both the left and right.

(3) Cross the track, continue straight ahead and pass the hamlet of Marmiton.

(4) Leave the track and turn right onto a dirt track heading north-east, then north-north-east, to reach a crossroads (the path on the right at the bend in this short track no longer exists). Possible shortcut: see Practical Information.

(5) Turn left north-west to rejoin the track leading to Marmiton, which becomes tarmac. Follow this small road to the right, and after crossing the bridge, continue for 110 m until you reach a path on the right.

(6) Leave the small road by turning right and head towards Maguide. The path heads north, passing between two houses. Follow it for 160 m and leave it by turning right onto another path, which you should follow until you reach a small tarmac road.

(7) Turn right and follow it for 420 m. The road turns into a track (leading to Laffiton). At the bend, leave the track and take a path opposite which leads to a crossroads at the edge of the woods.

(8) Continue straight on through the woodland until you reach the junction at a bend on the edge of the woods. Turn right to join the track running alongside the high-voltage power line to the south.

(9) Turn left and follow this track for 280 m.

(10) Turn right onto a dirt track, passing an old ruined barn on your left, and 210 m further on, at the junction, keep left and continue along this main track until you reach the small road at the hamlet of Hus.

(11) Follow it to the right and head for the car park (S/E).
