Parking is available in the car parks next to the Tourist Office or the Mimizan Plage shopping centre.
(S/E) From the Intercommunal Tourist Office, pass the church and follow Rue des Pinasses to the arena.
(1) After the arena, turn right onto Avenue du Parc d'Hiver. All the dead-end streets on the right lead to the water. Due to the tides, the banks are not always accessible.
(2) Leave Rue du Parc d'Hiver and take a sandy path on the left opposite No. 40. Follow this path to the end and, 10 metres before the river, take a quick look: the path descends to the left.
You will reach the picnic area of the "Pont des Trounques" bridge, built in 1932 by the Saint-Monod company, hence the name engraved on it.
(3) Cross the bridge and turn left, following the stream. Notice the pontoons (or piteys) on the bank used by fishermen to catch elvers. 100 metres before the house, leave the path and turn right towards the road (Rue de la Papeterie).
(4) At the crossroads, turn right, then at the goose footpath, take Avenue des Oiseaux on the left.
(5) At the crossroads, turn left into Rue Jean Rameau, then at the next intersection, turn left again into Rue Felix Arnaudin.
(6) Leave the tarmac at the hairpin bend to pass the end of the sand firebreak. Continue in this direction on the small marked path that winds between the pine trees. Ignore the first path on the right and, at the T-junction, follow the path on the left and continue along it. At the next intersection with a well-marked track, continue straight ahead, then again at the next intersection, to reach a crossroads a few metres further on. Turn first left then right to continue on the route.
(7) At the junction with five paths, continue on the second path on the right. You will come to another five-way junction, this time take the second path on the left (almost opposite). You will reach a road.
(8) At the junction with the tarmac road "Hauts de Mimizan", follow the signs on the left. Go around the water treatment plant, keeping it on your left and following one of the cement tracks used by the gem collectors. When you reach a wide track, follow it to the right. Cross the Route de Lespecier and follow the avenue of umbrella pines that leads to the Leslurgues Forest House. Take advantage of the drinking water point to quench your thirst.
(9) Several trails start from Leslurgues. Continue to follow the one marked in blue. It passes in front of the houses, runs alongside the cycle path and turns right towards the ocean and the coastal dune (or grey sandbank).
(10) Go to the end of the Grand Étang de la Mailloueyre. The trail crosses a pipe and continues to the Petit Étang de la Mailloueyre. Before that, take the stairs on the left that lead to the top of the dune. There is a lookout point with a superb view!
(11) At the end of the Petit Étang de la Mailloueyre, turn right, cross two intersections and continue straight ahead. Then, near the Leslurgues forest house, turn left. Continue along this path until you reach a track on the left, which you follow until you reach the first houses.
(12) After passing through two barriers, you will arrive at the corner formed by Avenue des Dunes and the Jarraud bus company. Pass the motorhome parking area (where you can climb the hill and admire the ocean). Reach Rue des Courbets, turn left and then immediately right onto Rue des Lacs. Continue straight ahead, cross the Mimizan stream and you will find yourself back at your starting point on the opposite bank (S/E).
