The five locks at Montreuil-sur-Ille
A short walk to explore the Ille and Rance Canal, very close to its highest point and the leat that divides it. The route takes you past five locks near Montreuil-sur-Ille and along a very shaded towpath. The circular route is completed by paths and roads through the countryside.
An easy walk; very little tarmac. Shaded in summer.
The Pond and the Boulet Canal
This walk will take you on a journey of discovery through a rich environment of flora and fauna linked to the presence of the Étang de Boulet. The Étang and the Boulet canal form part of the heritage of the water supply infrastructure for the Ille and Rance Canal and are inextricably linked to the rich history of navigation along this route.
The walk through the three communes: Feins, Montreuil-sur-Ille and Aubigné
Explore the paths linking these three towns, whose development is owed to the Ille and Rance Canal, built between 1804 and 1832, and to the Rennes–Saint-Malo railway line, which runs close to Montreuil-sur-Ille.
The Étang de Boulet and the Grotte Notre-Dame de Lourdes
This walk, starting at the Boulet lock, goes round the Étang de Boulet. The terrain is flat and easy, making it ideal for young children. The Étang de Boulet is the largest navigable body of water in Ille-et-Vilaine. The lake is a Natura 2000 site. The route takes you past the Notre-Dame de Lourdes Grotto and along the Rigole du Boulet, which once supplied water to the Ille and Rance Canal. The route ends with a short detour through the countryside near the lake.
The Rigole de Boulet and La Motte aux Anglais, starting from La Plousière
A short walk along the Rigole de Boulet, which feeds the upper section of the Ille and Rance Canal. Set amongst trees and following wide paths, this walk is magnificent in the colours of spring and autumn and well-shaded in summer. You’ll forget about tarmac roads the whole way.
You can extend the walk along the banks of the canal (at the Ville Morin lock) or along the Rigole de Boulet to the hamlet of Le Mée.
Around Saint-Médard-sur-Ille
A hike that will take you from Saint-Médard-sur-Ille to Saint-Germain-sur-Ille through the Bois de Cranne (protected natural area) and along the towpath (greenway) with its locks.
Boulet Canal – From the Estate to Pas de l’Ille via Les Landelles
This walk follows the banks of the Rigole de Boulet to the east of Dingé. The well-maintained path runs alongside the meandering watercourse, passing wooden or iron sheet piling, and crosses several 19th-century engineering structures: siphons, aqueducts, drinking troughs…
You walk beneath a canopy of beech trees. The colours change from spring to autumn. It’s cool in summer.
Boulet Watercourse – La Motte aux Anglais Route
The Boulet Canal stretches for 17 km and connects Boulet Pond to the Île and Rance Canal, which it once fed.
This walk allows you to explore the area south of Dingé. The path follows the banks in the shade of two-hundred-year-old beech trees. It takes you past a few small engineering structures built as part of the watercourse.
It takes us to the Motte aux Anglais burial mound (11th century).
A very open walk in all seasons and shaded in summer.

The Landehuan Canal in Dingé
The Rigole de Boulet stretches for 17 km and links Étang de Boulet to the Ille and Rance Canal, which it once fed.
The Landéhuan Channel is a secondary channel that fed the Boulet Channel. The route follows the channel for 2 km, beneath 200-year-old beech trees.
It also passes through the hamlets of La Bouderie and Les Hauts Rochers, where you can see traditional local architecture: granite walls, arched doorways, well-tended gardens…
Hédé and its locks
A pleasant hike where you can enjoy the paths and small roads to Hédé.
Then follow theGR®37trail, which will take you to the canal. Return along the towpaths to the starting point.

The Giants' Walk in the Bazouges Basin
This short walk through the woods and along the water's edge will impress you. You will encounter giants: beech trees, oaks and a few chestnut trees over 25 to 30 metres tall. Some are grouped together, so in summer you find yourself under a cathedral of greenery.The Bazouges Basin, its wildlife, the reeds and the houses on its banks will naturally bring out your cameras. Full of freshness, this short hike is a pleasant little break on hot days from June to October.

An easy hike with very little road. A little wet in places in winter, but still a very pleasant hike with lovely views.
The Oak Route in Chasné-sur-Illet
A walk through the Chasné countryside that is not difficult, apart from some very wet sections in the event of rain.
The route, described in full here, allows for several variations to shorten the distance. It is lined with majestic oaks and ragosses.
The Lovers’ Route in Chevaigné
A short, picturesque walk along the Ille-et-Rance Canal and via the Chemin des Amoureux. The route alternates between small roads and dirt tracks through the bocage. The paths can be very wet in winter due to the proximity of the canal.
The hillsides of the Ille around Chevaigné via Le Breil
This hike takes us from the Ille and Rance Canal to the plateau north of Chevaigné via the eastern slopes of the Ille. It allows us to discover the charm of the locks, the sunken paths and the countryside with its hamlets.
It is very varied and colourful in spring and autumn.
This hike can be extended to include the "Les coteaux de l'Ille à Chevaigné" hike, with which it shares the same starting/finishing point.
The hillsides of the Ille in Chevaigné
This walk has a charm that lies in the many sunken paths it takes along the slopes of the Ille, west of Chevaigné.
Sometimes lined with hundred-year-old oak trees, you can enjoy the peace and quiet, the colours and nature. Sometimes with a wide view over the Ille valley, it allows you to discover the Ille and Rance canal below, the meadows and hamlets.
Very colourful in spring and autumn, shaded in summer, passable in winter: a walk for all weathers!
The Witches’ Route via Quelmé
This extended version of the Witches’ Route winds its way through the Combournais countryside. Between the refreshing shade of the Haute Vallée and the picturesque villages and traditional (restored) houses, you can enjoy breathtaking views of this charming little town. Along the way, you can also admire the Manoir du Grand Trémaudan and its superb dovecote.
The Witches’ Route in Combourg
The Circuit des Sorciers takes you through the wooded countryside around Combourg. The route winds its way through the refreshing shade of the Haute Vallée in summer and past the small villages and houses characteristic of the region, offering breathtaking views of the ‘small town of character’ of Combourg.
The Forest of Rennes in Saint-Sulpice-la-Forêt
A pleasant walk in the Forest of Rennes, passing through Saint-Sulpice-la-Forêt.
Combourg Lake, the Étang des Mufins and the Haute Boissière
A route mainly on land. It will take you past Combourg’s two main bodies of water, the lake and the Étang des Maffins. Then, after passing through the La Croix Briand housing estate, it will take you to La Haute Boissière via a charming little sunken path. This spot is situated on a small hill about 80 metres above sea level, offering a lovely panoramic view of Combourg and the surrounding area in fine weather.
North of the Maffrais ponds in the Rennes Forest
If you enjoyed the route from La Fontaine Saint-Raoul to Saint-Sulpice-la-Forêt, you’ll like this one too. It’s essentially the same route, but this time to the north of the ponds.
The path winds its way through alternating beech and pine forests, sometimes meandering through the heart of the woodland, sometimes following the wide avenues.
