The start is at the Ille and Rance Canal, where it crosses the D82, at a place called La Plousière, 1.5 km north of Guipel. Car-sharing car park nearby.
(S/E) Start from the D82 bridge crossing the canal and follow the north bank of the canal heading east. You will then walk alongside the reservoir feeding the canal.
(1) Continue along the towpath.
(2) Before the Ville Morin lock, at the mouth of the Rigole du Boulet, cross it and turn left. Follow the canal northwards along its left bank, walking up the path that runs alongside it. Continue for about 3.5 km, noting the archaeological site of La Motte aux Anglais on the right after 1.5 km (information sign). Reach the bridge at Le Mée.
(3) Cross the canal to the left via the bridge. After about fifty metres, at a fork, turn left. Take the forest track that branches off to the left after the last house. Continue along this track until you reach the road leading to the Herbage farm.
(4) Walk straight through the hamlet of l'Herbage. Then, on leaving the hamlet, take the farm track that continues from the road. Follow it until you come to a small pond on your right.
(5) Take the sunken path on the left, cross a stream, and continue to the next hamlet.
(6) At the first house in the hamlet of La Motte aux Anglais, turn right following the sign for the “Route des moines”. The path descends due south along the edge of fields and meadows. Ignore a path branching off to the right (not shown on the IGN map).
(7) At yellow marker no. 20, a slope blocks the path southwards. Take the path on the right (west). Follow it to the second slope, which leads off to the left.
(8) At this point, there is a three-way junction in the path: on the right, a sunken track; on the left, our less marked path which runs alongside the embankment and heads south again. Follow the latter. The path widens after the first field. Descend until you reach the tarmac road at Ville Morin.
(9) Continue straight on, ignoring a road on the right. About a hundred metres further on, after the first house, take a short lane on the right leading to a footbridge.
(1) Return to the towpath you followed on the way out and follow it to the right along the reservoir. This will take you back to the starting point (S/E).
