Ambazac walks
Valleys and forests of the Ambazac mountains from Jonas Pond.
Circular loop with varied scenery, often in the forest, partly on the Sentier des Moines trail. Magnificent in the autumn colours of the Limousin region.
Moderator's note: hike modified on 11/05/2023 due to private property issues. To reach point 4 through the fields after going around the pond, the route now passes through Bourdaleine.
Circular des Bordes and Catheraud
This is a fairly steep and challenging ride for horses. It is fairly easy for riders, especially if they are comfortable with long climbs... Pretty scenery around Les Retouillères. It can be done in either direction, with the biggest climb being on the way to Catheraud on the Puy de Jabreilles side. The paths are quite rocky, so it's best to walk at a steady pace on this ride. The small roads you ride along are quiet, lined with trees and have beautiful verges.

An easy walk in a calm, relaxing environment which takes you through the Vienne valley at the heart of the world capital' porcelain, with magnificent medieval bridges, historic suburbs, old porcelain factories and a lovely park.
Solignac - Le Vigen - Chalucet
There is a trail that can be explored on foot or by mountain bike, connecting all these towns and offering beautiful views along the way. This will take you to the Château de Chalucet, an extraordinary medieval site.
Chalucet castle and Ligoure woodland
A lovely walk in the woodlands along the Ligoure and Briance rivers, with a visit to Chalucet castle.
This walk has been created in memory of Bernard, from the Amis de Chalucet Association and a great Camino walker who also walked to Rome and Bremen.
Getaway in the Ligoure Forest
A beautiful loop through the forest and along streams and rivers. A climb up to the plateau for some great views.
Along the Mourne to the Roches Mazuras
The first part of the circuit takes you along La Mourne, a lively little river with numerous waterfalls and cascades. The second part takes you through the Faux-Mazuras forest, and the third part finally takes you to the top of the Roches Mazuras, in a corner of moorland, where you can enjoy unobstructed views.

Monts de Blond - Bachellerie Circular
A mainly forest route, on paths lined with low walls, skirting a few meadows and passing through a few quiet hamlets.
Mont de Transet and La Chaise à Thauron
This 5 km route, which links two villages, mainly follows very old rural paths, cleaned by volunteers from the Pierres et Nature de Thauron association: two recent forest tracks, created for the exploitation of conifer plantations, and a tarmaced communal road, which has a long history.
Through the Thaurion Gorges
Starting from Thauron, this is an easy walk that takes you along a small section of the magnificent Thaurion Gorges, then into the countryside.
Circular loop from Saint-Pardoux-Morterolles to the Augerolles waterfalls
A circular route starting from Saint-Pardoux-Morterolles that also allows you to discover the Cascades d'Augerolles site. This hike passes through meadows, woods, forests and the areas around the waterfalls. A few panoramic views, streams and a plank bridge complete the picture. It should be noted that the roads, where there are any, are forest roads, some paved and some unpaved, but in any case very little used.
Grande Cazine Pond
The Cazine ponds walking guide was produced in partnership with the Conservatoire d'Espaces Naturels and the local association A4P. It highlights the exceptional heritage around two ponds currently undergoing ecological conversion. The pleasant route alternates between distant views and the immediate surroundings of these wetlands. If possible, bring a smartphone with you to access the information provided along the route.

The Champs de Pierres and Augerolles waterfalls
At the gateway to the Millevaches plateau, set off on a walk punctuated with information panels to discover a 50-hectare listed natural site.
Route around Lake Vassivière
This two-stage route of 2 x 18 km will take you on a journey of discovery around one of the largest artificial lakes in France.
You can expect to see mid-mountain landscapes, varied vegetation including fir forests, moors and peat bogs, and wild flora and fauna on this tour of Lake Vassivière, commonly known as "Little Canada".
The highlight of the route: a stopover at the Pourvoirie du Lac stopover lodge (accommodation, breakfast and dinner with a panoramic view of the lake).
From the Vassivière Dam to Nergout
This first stage takes you through unspoilt countryside, with a route that is both wild and surprising.

The dam is complemented by the Auchaise dyke, which seals off a depression in the ground on the right bank about 400m from the main structure. This reservoir also receives water diverted from the upper basins of the Taurion (La Vaud-Gelade), Vienne, Dorat and Chandouille (Faux-la-Montagne) rivers.
Route des Tourbières - Vassivière
Peat bogs develop in granite basins called alveoli, where the acidic, poor soil provides favourable conditions for their growth. These fragile environments are home to a specific flora composed of very particular primitive plants: sphagnum mosses. The different stages are visible here: low marshes covered with quaking bogs, active raised bogs, and peat heaths bordered by willows and birches.
The Chassagnas Peninsula on Lake Vassivière
Chassagnas, of Latin origin, Cassania or Gallic Cassanus, means oak. Chassagnas consists of a wooded slope down to the edge of Lake Vassivière and a partially open summit offering a 180° view of the lake.
The Chassagnas peninsula, jutting out into the heart of Lake Vassivière, forms the boundary between the Creuse and Haute-Vienne departments. Together with its twin, the Puy du Rocher, which dominates Vauveix, it forms a barrier between the lake's two main bays.
Étang de la Chaume
This is a walking guide. The vast Étang de la Chaume lake conceals some little-known spots that this interpretive trail invites you to discover as you walk along part of the shore and wander through the surrounding woods and moors. Please be discreet towards the wildlife and fishermen, and wear good shoes in wet weather.
Le Puy de Gaudy
Between Guéret and Sainte-Feyre, this is a short, easy hike that allows you to discover the oppidum and the beautiful panorama from the summit of Puy de Gaudy.
Mont Gargan
During a short climb and a small circular route, Mont Gargan, a memorial site steeped in history, offers landscapes of moors and woods, unobstructed views and heritage.
Boucle de la Chapelle Saint-Dulcet
A very pleasant loop in the Monédières, with many sections in the forest, leading to the charming and unusual Saint-Dulcet Chapel. A very easy circuit with little elevation gain, making it accessible to all fitness levels.
Les Bonnes Fontaines de Courbefy
Discover the Bonnes Fontaines de Courbefy, unique places of worship that are found in large numbers in Limousin. Those in Courbefy were particularly renowned and frequented, one of them even accompanied by a cross covered with ex-votos, offerings and marks of devotion.
Courbefy is an abandoned village, and the announcement of its sale made international headlines a few years ago.
The Anzême Gorges and the Mouline waterfall
A short hike that will allow you to explore the area around Anzême and enjoy a view overlooking the Devil's Bridge. You will then reach the banks of the Creuse and set off to discover the Mouline Waterfall.
