The start of the walk is at the entrance to the Domaine du Muret riding centre.
(S/E) Take the path that climbs between a stone wall and the riding school. Walk alongside the paddocks, past the lodges, and into the forest.
(1) Ignore the paths on the right and turn left. Follow the Allée de Muret until you reach the road.
(2) At the D5, head straight on. You’ll come across the beautiful Trasforêt estate and its chapel. In wet weather, the little stream quickly overflows onto the path, but if you’re on the right track, don’t worry. Keep to the left, follow the fence; you’re on a cobbled path and you’ll soon spot the little chapel. Continue along the path on the right and admire the old fish farm and its natural arbour. Head back into the forest for a short climb.
(3) Turn right at the Fork in the road and then stay on the same path.
(4) As you emerge from the woods, turn right and walk alongside the fields. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the village of Vieux Hureau. Walk past the farm, join the road and enter the village.
(5) At the crossroads, turn left and take the first path on the right. Follow it straight on and head back down through the pine trees. The path is a bit stony. The rain is constantly washing stones out of the ground. For horses inexperienced in trail riding, I strongly advise you to dismount.
(6) When you reach the county road, do not take the small path opposite but the one further to the right.
(7) At the crossroads, turn left and head down the path to the village of Puy Garsault. When you reach the first houses, do not go back up onto the road but take the path opposite you and head towards the village of Laurière. Turn right onto the small road.
(8) Next, take the first path on your left just after the little fountain. Cross the road and take the path opposite.
(9) At the crossroads, take the path on the right and admire this beautiful avenue of beech trees. Turn left.
(10) Take the first path on your left, and continue along this path, ignoring the paths on your right, until you reach a large T-junction.
(11) Turn right and walk along the meadows. Continue through the woodland. Keep going straight on along this path. You’ll emerge from the woodland at another T-junction.
(12) Turn left. The descent may look a bit daunting but it’s actually quite easy. Feel free to take the small track on the left if necessary. Keep going straight on, following the road, then head back into the forest. Pass the beautiful Grand Muret estate, take a lovely sunken path and walk alongside the magnificent Gardèches pond.
(13) The track takes you straight back to the car park (S/E).
