Description of the walk

This hike is included in the "Pays touristique des Eaux-Vives" (Creuse) hiking trails.

Departure from Fursac Town Hall (Grand Rue).
Yellow markings (on three quarters of the route). Route suitable for mountain biking.

(S/E) Go downhill and turn right towards Laurière (D1). After crossing the Gartempe, go back uphill and take the path on the right opposite the cemetery.

(1) Immediately after the start of the path, take the marked path on the left, initially above the Gartempe, then on the riverbank.

(2) The path leaves the banks of the Gartempe and climbs to the left. At the top of the climb, turn right and follow this path. After about 500m, it continues to the left. Continue to follow it to the pretty hamlet of Les Meides.

(3) At the entrance to the hamlet of Les Meides, turn left onto the road that climbs up to the D1. Turn right to follow the D1 for 200 metres.

(4) At the first path, turn right off the road.
When the main path turns right, take another path slightly to the left. Follow this path southwards and continue straight ahead at the junction with another path until you reach the D42a road, which you follow to the left until you reach the small village of Paulhac. Cross the D1 and continue to the church and a small chapel.

(5) After the church, continue around the village, always descending to the left. Turn left onto the street that goes up around the church. At the top of the street, turn right to join the D1, which you follow northwards until the first street on the left. At the end of this street, turn right to leave the village.

(6) Follow this small road, which turns right to join the D1. Cross the D1 and take the road opposite (D24a, towards the orientation table).
Leave the road and turn left up the path that leads to the orientation table.

(7) A hundred metres or so after the orientation table, the yellow markings continue on the left (this is an alternative route back to Fursac via the old Roman road), but continue straight ahead to take the other alternative route through the hamlet of Châtenet (you will find traces of old yellow markings here). Follow the path down to the road, which you cross to enter Châtenet.

(8) In the hamlet, take a small road on the right that descends (nice view of Fursac) to the main road that enters Saint-Étienne-de-Fursac. Descend to the centre of the village to return to the starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

Fursac is a merger of the villages of Saint-Pierre-de-Fursac and Saint-Étienne-de-Fursac, on the Gartempe river, overlooked by a small castle.
Paulhac is a charming little village in Creuse, with a former Templar commandery that was one of the most important in Limousin. All that remains today is the 13th-century Saint-Jean Church and the Gothic-style Saint-Fiacre Chapel, built in 1449.
From the orientation table, there is a wide view of the Monts d'Ambazac and the Monts de Guéret.

A very pleasant route, despite some hesitation along the route
which led to an error, albeit a minor one (an extra kilometre).
Nevertheless, discovering the autumn landscapes of Creuse with its abundance
of chestnuts made for a lovely afternoon.

A pleasant walk with my dog. The village of Paulhac, with its traditional houses and commandery, is worth a visit. Less interesting towards the end, except for the orientation table, which offers a lovely panoramic view. It's a shame the weather was very cloudy.

The start of the walk along the banks of the Gartempe is very pretty, as is the village of Paulhac with its remarkable church. The rest of the walk is a little less interesting.

Unmaintained path with tall grass (which gave me skin allergies) and brambles, rare and old markings, not very visible, often faded or covered by foliage. Places of interest are not marked. It's a shame because the landscapes are very beautiful!
