Lac des Leschères and Montreuil-sur-Blaise Communal Forest
A pleasant walk around Lac des Leschères and through the Montreuil-sur-Blaise Communal Forest. It is utterly peaceful, with birdsong or the rustling of leaves in the wind, depending on the season. Lac des Leschères, known locally as ‘Digue’, is a former 40-hectare reservoir that fed the canal linking Brousseval to Saint-Dizier. The route takes you through the forest and along paths that are sometimes not shown on maps:the Visorando app is recommended.
The Bois des Ermites
A short, bucolic walk in the forest between Bailly-aux-Forges and Laneuville-à-Rémy. Most of the route is in the forest, which is very pleasant in summer. In winter, the southern part can be a little damp.

This walk offers a wonderful immersion in the heart of the forest, in a setting of natural beauty and tranquillity. The route runs entirely through woodland. A walk particularly recommended in summer during hot weather.
Between the Forest and the Chênoi
A short walk around Doulevant-le-Petit, through the forest. A very pleasant, easy stroll under the canopy. If you keep quiet, you may have the pleasure of spotting some of the many roe deer in the area.

A walk in the forest between Courcelles-sur-Blaise and Mertrud. In spring, you can pick lovely bunches of lily of the valley here. In summer, when you’re looking for a bit of cool shade, this route is ideal as it runs entirely through the forest.

Sources du Lac du Der, the river and the old canal
From the Sources du Lac du Der, passing through Éclaron, you will follow the old Canal de Wassy and then the Ruisseau des Fabriques, nicknamed the “little river”, before returning via the ponds and the cycle path.

From Mathons to Morancourt via the Bois des Convers and back via Haut de la Maize, making for a lovely, undulating walk through plains and woodland teeming with roe deer. You can’t complete the entire walk without spotting several.

Explore the plateau between Baudrecourt and Dommartin-le-Saint-Père and its many wind turbines, passing through Baudrecourt. Enjoy the pretty old stone houses, now renovated. You can also see a watercress bed in the Blaiseron riverbed.
From the Étang de la Varnière to Les Vingt Journaux
A walk through Montier-en-Der allowing you to discover the Abbey Church of Saint-Pierre, a listed historic monument, and further on the former national stud farm, currently being redeveloped. Finish with a visit to the town centre and its gardens, and the little river Voire.

In the footsteps of Philippe Lebon, starting from Charmes-la-Grande
This walk leads to Brachay, the birthplace of Philippe Lebon (1767), inventor of lighting gas produced by distilling wood. A bust in his honour stands in front of the town hall, and two houses that once belonged to him can also be seen.
Doulevant-le-Château circular loop
A walk steeped in history, as we pass through Doulevant-le-Château, where Napoleon stayed on two occasions. We also pass through Villiers-aux-Chênes, home to an ancient Merovingian cemetery, and finally through Dommartin-le-Saint-Père, where you can visit the Foundry Museum.
