You can reach Todtmoos from St. Blasien, for example, by taking bus 7321. From Wehr, you can take the SBG bus 7320 back to Todtmoos.
(S) Behind the covered bus stop, a footbridge crosses the stream, where our route leads to the centre of Todtmoos. Follow the signs for the Schluchtensteig trail on the main road
to the left, turn right at the T-junction, then straight ahead and shortly afterwards turn right uphill onto Kurparkweg
. Follow this road uphill on the paved road and continue to the benches with a view.
(1) We reach a fork and continue slightly uphill in the same direction, now on Herrenkopfweg
. At the top, we continue straight ahead, now slightly downhill. As soon as the road bends to the left in a hairpin bend, we continue straight ahead uphill and pass a car park. We continue to follow our sign until we reach the sign marked "Klinik der Rentenversicherung" (Pension Insurance Clinic).
(2) Immediately after that, we turn left onto a narrow path into the forest. At the next intersection, we continue diagonally across the flat terrain onto Weiherweg
. We follow our signpost slightly uphill on the unpaved forest path until we reach a bench at a fork.
(3) Keep right and you will reach a fork.
(4) Here, take the right-hand path, ignore all further turnoffs and you will reach Schwarzenbacher Straße
, which you follow to the left according to the signpost.
(5) On Alten Kirchweg
, we walk through the village, pass a cross on the left and, still following the Schluchtensteig sign, turn left at the next fork downhill into Hangstraße
. The path leads past the Gasthof Sternen inn and we reach the mechanical workshop.
(6) We now leave the original Schluchtensteig trail. We walk straight ahead across the crossroads, cross the Sägebach stream on the Gatterweg
, pass a car park and take the first path steeply uphill to the right. Immediately afterwards, we cross the Gatterweg
and continue straight ahead uphill to the Gasthaus Sternwarte.
(7) Here we meet the Gatterweg
again, which we now follow straight ahead uphill. At the second fork, we turn left through a dip across the fields and reach the edge of the forest, where we come to a confusing crossroads.
(8) First, we turn right, then continue straight ahead into the forest and follow the gate path
again, now marked with a yellow diamond. The path leads slightly downhill, past a raised hide. We ignore all turnoffs and reach the next signpost.
(9) We follow the signs to Gersbach
straight ahead, past a white bench.
(10) Continue until you reach a feeding station.
(11) Immediately after that, we turn left twice, ignore the next turnings and reach the hamlet of Fetzenbach.
(12) Behind the 750 Years of Fetzenbach stele, cross the stream and the country road and follow an inconspicuous narrow meadow path directly opposite, initially along the edge of the forest, relatively steeply uphill. At the first crossroads, continue straight ahead, following the yellow diamond steeply uphill to the next crossroads.
(13) Continue to the right (in the direction without signposts) and do not follow the signs to Gersbach
. Follow the unpaved forest path, which leads you around the hill without any significant incline until you reach a clearing.
(14) On the other side, you will see a signpost, but turn left immediately and stay on the gravel forest road, following it to the next T-junction.
(15) Here, continue right uphill on a sandy path until you reach the paved road.
(16) Follow the signpost to Gersbach
and stay on Rauschbachstraße
, which initially leads downhill into and through the village.
(17) At a fountain, you will reach Wehratalstraße, which you follow uphill to the left. After the church, turn right into Zum Bühl
, pass the Landhotel Mühle zu Gersbach and follow the road uphill until you reach a metal artwork.
(18) Here, we turn right onto the Hölzle
path and continue straight ahead, following the paved path uphill across the pastures until we reach Mettlerweg
, which we follow. The path descends again. We ignore all turnoffs until we reach an information board just before the edge of the forest. We continue straight ahead. Shortly afterwards, we pass the striking hollow oak tree.
(19) Here, we turn right onto the gravel forest path (Glaserkopfweg
), which initially leads us along the edge of the forest. We walk past a wind farm and ignore all turnings again.
(20) At the wind turbine, we stay on the Hauweg
, a gravel forest path, keep right at the first fork and continue to a raised hide.
(21) Shortly afterwards, we reach a fork (not a crossroads, as the map suggests) and keep to the right downhill. We now follow the Hauweg downhill and ignore all turnings.
(22) The Hauweg soon makes a sharp right turn; we continue straight ahead. (Oberer Klingenbergweg
) Passing several raised hides, we walk downhill on the gravel path. All turnoffs are negligible, as they are not graveled and therefore hardly visible.
(23) At the Stubentürweg sign, keep straight ahead and you are now on Stubentürweg
. At the next fork, turn left uphill and you will reach a T-junction with the Schlierbachweg sign.
(24) Here, turn right and walk down Mettlerhofweg
, ignoring all turnoffs again.
(25) Follow the fitness trail for a few metres, then turn left onto the paved road, continuing downhill, passing a cross, then two large chimneys on your left, until you finally reach the Schluchtensteig trail again.
(26) Continue to the right, along the weir, now following the Schluchtensteig sign again. Cross the weir via a bridge and walk along the path to the left of the stream towards the town centre. Follow the path until you reach a crossroads, where you turn right into Waldstraße
, cross the weir again and then turn left into Hauptstraße
.
(27) On the left, you will pass the town hall, where the Schluchtensteig officially ends. You will also find the corresponding sign here. Continue along the main road
until you reach the station square
.
(E) From here, you can take the bus back to the starting point.
